PS3 - XBox360 - which is the most reliable?

You're entering this generation at what I see as the third quarter of it's life cycle. I really don't think the current generation consoles will see another 5 years.
IMO, go for the console with the best games - which I think is the 360. There are only a hand full of exclusives remaining between the platforms so either one would do.

I do this every time though. They're too expensive otherwise. Not that I can't afford them, just that I'm on principle not prepared to pay the sort of money initially asked for these things if all they do is play games. That and the reliability issues kept me away from this generation. I just wasn't prepared to toss that sort of money at something that was more than likely going to brick itself. Now that people are saying the reliability has improved I'm far more keen on them.

The fact that these things are in the third quarter of their life-cycle is great. It means I will pick up games cheaper and the unit I buy will be a version improved upon through the failures of previous versions and will be less likely to explode. I'm far happier with that idea. I don't need the bleeding edge all the time and very seldom will I buy anything to do with gaming until it has been around for at least a few years. It saves me money and stress in the long run.

I've been itching to upgrade from my PS2 for quite some time now (I guess the Wii doesn't count :p). What put me off was limited gaming time these days.

Then a month ago I played around with my nephew's PS3 - and was very impressed with the multimedia and internet capabilities. So I bought one - and pretty much shelved my Tvix media player in the process.

Oh, and the games rock! :D
LOL It was the same with me. I tried out my brother's console a few months ago and thought "this is so much more fun than PS2... I'm going to get one of these new generation things". He sold his XBox though so I can't go back for another fix. :p

Internet capabilities I'm less concerned with. I'll use my laptop for experiencing the Internet. Would be nice to have a Blu-Ray player I suppose. Like I said I think it is just a matter of me looking at what sort of games I can buy on which console as you guys have now told me that both consoles are pretty reliable these days. If reliability is not a factor it is going to make my choice a lot easier.

100%
I got my PS3 fairly recently and am loving picking up the older titles like MGS for bargain prices.
Like I've said in another thread, I've got both consoles and primarily play games on the 360. The controller and the ecosystem is just so much better. There's virtually nothing between them in terms of graphics & sound.
The PS3 is mainly used for Blu-Ray, Tversity and PS3 exclusives.

Whichever one you choose, enjoyment is guaranteed!

I'll probably be getting a PS3 end of the month. Just for Heavy Rain though...
