PS4 reveal

My first reaction to the PS+ membership required for online/Multiplayer - NOOoooooOooooOooOoo....

Then I thought about it.

I thought our PS3 was "just okay" until we got PS+. Suddenly there were new games to try out for free every month. The PS3 became more appealing. Then I got God Of War free through PS+. It was a game I would never have considered playing of my own accord, but I absolutely loved it. Played it through to the end, including the challenges. We got discounts on other games. I played Journey and Flower and all sorts of other awesome games that I never knew existed.

So if I were to get a PS4, the PS+ thing won't bother me really.

On the topic of controllers: I have a PS controller for the PS3, and I have an XBox controller for my PC. I have never had any issue switching between the two, and I do not find one any more comfortable or better to use than the other. Of course, if you've played 6 hours straight of anything, your hands are gonna start to cramp. :D

We use our PS3 as our primary media device. We watch BluRays and DVDs on it, and we link it to the PC via WiFi to watch everything else. We like the PS media server interface for navigating and watching movies and series. We did not have to buy a separate remote for it. I love the PS3, and the PS4 sounds like a really great device.

The DRM-free free-trade indie-supportive attitude of Sony takes the cake though. Great specs at an awesome price? No contest. It's Playstation all the way for me.

If I remeber correctly, Sony Bluray players would play MKV files and 30mins in, it would stop with a piracy warning....So I personally would not trust the Ps4

That was in videos which used DRM protection Cinavia. Would appear on your regular Bluray player as well if it was a certified device.

+1 Month after month I use to envy Playstation+ Member. Because of my small drive in my PS3 (40gb) I never signed up. I always planned to join PS+ once I upgrade my HDD. Until it hit me yesterday. Why not join so long and claim the free games and once I upgrade my HDD then I can download them. Yesterday alone I Picked up 8 free games and tomorrow 5 new games will be added. Picked up LBP2 and Imfamous2 just in time:D

I don't see why people are complaining...

the PlayStation 4 will support lending, trading, reselling, and indeed playing your games on your console in pretty much the same way as we have been since they came on floppy discs. No DRM, no restrictions, no online requirements, and no authentication.

And right there i stopped reading and game won.......SONY PS4!!!!

Mind you i'm a xbox 360 owner and was always harping on about the MS ecosystem(PC,Tablet,Phone and Xbox) but after those draconian DRM's MS introduced it was no brainer and I hope(pray) that MS lives to regret them...at the till point.

Converted!!!

Same here. I thought they'd get their act together by E3 but it seems like it's not meant to be.

I'll miss the controller but it's a small price to pay.

PS4 is ugly but it would be about R1500 cheaper than XBox One

Something I am wondering about.... Obviously the publishers will love the DRM on X1, will they then first release on X1 then later on PS4? If this does happen, will Sony then buckle under pressure and implement a form DRM?

I will probally get both eventually, cause: a) Gears of Wars / Halo b) Uncharted / GT series.

But since I am such a sucker for the underdog I will probally get X1 first. The things people bitch about so louldy about X1 are things that won't effect me really, unless ADSL and Vodacom stop working at same time for longer than 24 hours. :)

Or poor sales of the X1 may result in publishers targeting the PS4 more.

My guess that's exactly what will happen. Microsoft is betamax. Eventually the publishers go to what the consumers buy, and that means the PS4.

Now that the PS4 uses x86 architecture I have a feeling it will use NTFS

Why use NTFS when you have to pay royalties to MS? There are other file systems out there that are free an much better than NTFS.
