PS4 Slim or Xbox One S in 2018?

Saving up for a gaming console. Noticed that PS4s are minimum R5000 new but you could buy a Xbox One S for R3900 new.

I just wanna ask if anyone on Xbox One struggles to find multiplayer matches in games like Call of duty or Battlefield 1? Or in any other games. I know there are a lot of people over on ps4 but ps4s are over priced and I've already owned one...sooo what's the point of buying a XB 1 S for so much less but you can't find any online matches right?

Okay well I have owned a PS4 500GB since launch in SA. In fact I pre ordered it back then and still have it today. One of the best consoles I ever owned having owned a xbox 360 and ps3 before that. I now also have a xbox one s.

In South Africa there are way more PS4 online players and that is just a fact. Performance wise and games wise same. Price for games pretty much the same.

xbox one wins in terms of xbox live gold which you can pick up for relatively cheap. global digital keys available pretty much all over. Playstation plus on the other hand is region locked so only SA codes will work and from what I have seen even with specials the 12 month sub for PSN Plus is slightly more expensive.

Playstation does allow you to play the free to play games like fortnite, paladins and H1Z1 battle royale online without needing PSN Plus which is nice because on xbox you need Gold to play online no matter what game.

Both consoles has their specials so to say one is better than the other in terms of special isin't accurate.

Xbox one has Kodi and Plex PS4 has Plex only. Both has spotify.


Now when it comes to online games. COD Black Ops 3 I always get local games on the weekend and evenings during the week. Xbox one it was not easy to get local games at all for Black Ops 3 but there is sometimes.

Battlefield 1. I would let the screenshots below do all the explaining. Way more players on PS.

Have you considered buying a seconhand or pre owned PS4? They for pretty cheap on Facebook classifieds and at Cash Crusaders.

Hold off for a month or 2 I suspect the PS4 will drop in price
 
Ah thank you so much!! I had a hunch that the xbox live community in SA was dying out. I use to play Black ops 2 on 360 and even then you would find the same lobbies with the same people over and over again. Whereas when I bought a ps4,even though everyone hated WWII there was always new people playing and you could find new lobbies relatively easily.

I'll look at getting a second hand one. You guys have been a great help! :)
 
Yeah a PS4 will be you best bet. Also PS4 shares Rocket league servers with PC where with xbox one they only allowed to be matched with xbox players.

Sunday morning 9am and BF servers are quiet but if you are on xbox one you probably won't be able to play unless you join international servers...

On PS4 I will always fine at least 1 local game no matter what game no matter how old. With xbox one it's hard to find local games despite there being a relatively big facebook group for xbox ZA players but in general PS4 has way more players in SA.

I actually tried to sell my xbox one s 1TB to help towards me upgrading to a new ps4 pro but I soon realized the xbox one has zero resell value in SA.

As a very rough idea and obviously it will vary a lot based on where and how you sell. Cash crusaders offered me R1900 for a 1TB xbox one s with 5 month warranty left but offered me R2950 for a launch edition phat 500GB ps4 with no box and warn controller and no games.

So the general mindset in SA is PS4. This is obviously my opinion and not a fanboi comment as I own a PS4, xbox one s and gaming pc. :)

Yeah it seems like SA has migrated from Xbox to PS lol.

They have a white ps4 with Star Wars for roughly R4300 new but I'm not sure if they are legit or if it's a scam...
I can't find any other white ps4's on any of our major online retailers like Takealot, Loot, Game or Makro. XD
 
Never had a problem matchmaking in bf1 on Xbox. I own both consoles but my Xbox is on most of the time. Games are cheaper. Nothing wrong with either console
 
Personally I'd try the Xbox. I had a 360 and loved it, as well as a PS3 and PS4.

My impression was that Microsoft has developed the XBox as the heart of a home's entertainment centre, while the PS4 is just a games console, nothing more. That left me feeling bored with the PS4 and I ended up selling it.

I would suspect they are legit as I have a white ps4 pro

I know white ps4's exist but why is Tabooc the only retailer selling it? And selling it for so cheap? Mmmmm
 
I wanna play the new COD when it launches on 12 October but I also don't want to pay R1000 for a game and not being able to find any local games XD

No, use a credit card to order so you can get your money back if it turns out to be a scammer

I don't agree with you. Apart from Game pass and ea access and the very few titles that are cheaper on cdkeys.com they are pretty much the same. The ability to use a global key is pretty cool from xbox. PS4 is like heavily region restricted but if you have a ZA psn and US PSN then you are sorted with game share function. Buy PSN plus on US account and make it primary on your PS4. Done both profiles share the PSN plus sub.

PS had a special fror BF1 premium and TF2 delux edition I think it was for R279. What a bargain it was so PSN also have cheap games.

Yeah no doubt there are tons of international matches but as my Screenshot shows there is obviously more players locally on PS4.
 
I'd save a little more if I were you and rather go for a Xbox One X

Each to their own. As I've mentioned, I own both consoles and just prefer the Xbox One. I don't follow cd keys anymore, I use this: https://xbox-store-checker.com - my most recent purchase was Ashes 2018 - about half the price compared to PSN.
 
How is this even a question?

PS4 all the way. More exclusives and better online.

No. Rather the PS4 Pro.

Edit: purchased the Xbox One X. Used it twice to play 4K movies and was not impressed. Fair enough, haven't used it yet to play Halo on it; but still doesn't grab me.
