Digital Pricing : PS4 vs Xbox One Comparison

This started out HERE yesterday and later moved HERE as well.

After MyGaming ran the related article HERE I figured it needs a mention on MyBB.

All in all it comes down to the fact that after Xbox One has finally launched here we now have access to the digital pricing to make comparisons.

As it turns out PS4 is ridiculously expensive for no good reason and obviously making use of some of other crazy currency conversion with absolutely no forethought for customised pricing in our region.

As such it almost makes no sense to go digital on PS4...or PS4 at all for that matter.

Here's the spreadsheet I started yesterday that draws a great many comparisons.

Now the thing we've had people do thus far is Tweet (if you do that) @SterEnt (Ster Kinekor Entertainment) @playstation_SA (which is probably just a brand front for the same thing) because Sony South Africa have nothing to do with Playstation.

I don't do Facebook but maybe some other people want to make a fuss on there and link to this thread or the spreadsheet or both and ask them if they can explain how that is even possible.

Even better is rubbing salt in their wounds and telling them we'll rather get Xbox One's.

This won't change unless a fuss is made about it.

This conversation isn't about PC vs Console... I've got no problem with the base pricing of the Xbox One for instance, but rather the fact that Playstation is completely out of whack in comparison.

Everything Playstation related is expensive. Just look at the controller pricing. :-(

Well there's a difference between base cost of something being expensive and it being more expensive based on our region.

The hardware I don't find to be too out of control compared to other regions/territories.

If you plan to run at console level graphics the recommended spec is overkill. I am running a PC you can build for 5000 and plays 1080 nicely on my TV. If you want to run at 4k at 60fps minimum then yes it's gonna get expensive.

You will only have to upgrade the motherboard and chip every 5 years or so if you buy i3 level or above and the graphics card every 3 to 4 years.

I still prefer console though. I agree, the games are expensive but if you wait a few months you could find it second hand for half price. I don't mind the wait at all.

Why are the digital versions the same price or in some instances even more though? Shouldn't they be cheaper? Theres no disc or packaging involved printed cover and booklet cost.

Because they can, and nobody is complaining about it. There's no physical overhead involved so there's no good reason for it to be more expensive, and there's the downside of it taking up your HD space, so if you delete it then you will need to download it again, and you can't sell it...

I don't see how the price of one McDonalds meal per month for 2 - 6 games is a joke?

I mean that's the best deal around even if you only play one of the six games for an hour.

True. No way am I gonna spend R900 on a game. Cash Converters or Crusader are already selling second hand PS4 games I see.
