Hey! This is great. I like the discourse.Your statement was “PS5 dominates in the States” and I illustrated how that’s simply not true based on the lack of data.
You also stated it’s not looking good for Xbox, while completely ignoring their vision of not being focused on hardware…while only using hardware as a metric.
So your very thread title chose a narrative and pre-determined a victor without the data to support it.
Another example if every PS5 console sale only averages 1 software sale, but every Xbox sold averages 1 perpetual Game Pass sub and Nintendo sells two games per Switch who is really dominating?
And again why isn’t Apple the one dominating? Just because it’s a subscription and not a sale?
End of the day the point is that the metrics are broken and don’t match the modern day landscape.
I'm not for splitting hairs here, but I did end off one of my posts with "wishing for the old NPD days" or something like that. Us armchair analysts (...) need the data, you know.
Given the data that we have, yes Sony is "winning". I'm saying that as a Nintendo-only gamer. I have no horse in this race, do not care who "wins", etc etc etc. But I do love talking about sales in the console gaming space. For all intent and purposes one can correctly claim that Android and Apple based platforms are the true winners here, based on the sheer amount of devices and software and microtransactions being bought.
And making up scenarios? Cmon guys! Rather work with the scantily clad data than hypotheticals. Altho I have to admit, it is nogal fun to throw these around.
I think it's time to deploy the Gaming Journo signal: @CataclysmZA Kom in kwagga! alpha-bravo-charlie!
