I am still at 2 minds of getting a PS5 or an xbox series x soon in the next month or so. Which one do you prefer @AlphaJohn ?

I have both.

1st party PS5 games are better and release more often than Xbox first party games.
Xbox is great for the wallet though.

I would say get a PS5 on a Black Friday deal at Koodoo. They will probably be running stock clearance sales as the new slim is coming (literally just smaller with a bit more storage).

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it

I cannot really think of a good reason anyone wouldn't, unless you literally don't have space to store it.

1. It's normally cheaper or the same price as the digital download.
2. You can resell it when you're finished with it if you want.
3. I can loan it to a friend.
4. You can play it offline / don't need to download anything to play it (*this has exceptions)
5. One day when the PS5 servers go offline I'll still have easy access to this copy.
6. It looks cool in my collection.

My views as a digital owner :

1. Spider Man 2 was R20 more on Koodoo vs Digital.
2. Sure, but that negates points 3, 4, 5 and 6.
3. Digital game sharing is a thing too.
4. Updates make the game run better and with more content.
5. If a future PS6 or 7 is all digital, back compatibility will be dependent on digital licenses alone.
6. I don't think anyone's SO has ever said "I wish you took up more space with your *insert hobby here*"

It's like using HDDs for games. Sure they're still relevant for PS4 games and other content, but in a generation they won't be.

Everyone will feel differently about this.

The only real positive I see with digital is that it can be purchased instantly and ready to play in a short time (depending on the game size and your internet).

Most of those points are mute; if the disk gets damaged or lost and or the disk drive dies.

I don’t understand why anyone would buy physical media in 2023.

Also downloaded games can be played offline. But most consoles are useless offline, anyway.

There isn’t any benefit to having physical media over digital imho.

1. I can hold it in my hand and admire the cover art.
2. I can resell it when I’m done.
3. Preorders often come with fun niknaks like the stupid keyring.

4. If the disk is scratched, lost or broken - you have to buy it again…
