PS5

Meh.

I would a fully support official PlayStation controller that just has offset analog.

At least the sticks are better this time. That made it far worse on previous gen.
I don't use haptics, so it doesn't bother me ... that controller is lit to be honest

It’s the one thing the PS5 has going for it over the others.

Xbox vibration is asstastic and only distracts. DualSense actually adds to the experience.

Damn so your old one died?
Yeah unfortunately is a board issue and not a PSU issue, and will cost over R6k for a replacement board.

Still going to try see if we can repair the existing board - There are some components that dont require specialised tooling

Will be “nice” to have a disc version though

I disable it anyway. It's a drain on battery life which is already bad to begin with...

On my elite I turn them down to at least half. They work well for Forza games.

I quite like the PS5 controller speaker. Which XB would add one.

Same, because on the Elite you can actually adjust it.

Normal controller it’s full power always and so annoying.

Rather turn it to low, it’s such a numb deadbeat experience without it.

But yeah the battery is shocking. Love it when people moan about Xbox needing batteries, but you are basically forced to buy two controllers and a charge dock on the PS5.

Xbox I change the battery in a few seconds and life goes on.

Will try low and see how it goes.

It's a pity they haven't allowed AA batteries by now. Or even a proprietary battery pack if you have to, that you can easily replace.

All the cool stuff like haptics, speaker and mic are all battery drains which shorten the lifespan of the controller...

I mean fortunately they are pretty easy to replace and historically they have lasted well.

And with XB you are 'basically forced' to buy a rechargeable battery pack or spend your life buying batteries at the supermarket counter. I can also just plug my controller in and life goes on

Except then you are tethered to a wire and lost functionality.

Xbox gives you choices to do it any way you please, PS there is only one way.

Let’s not forget the Xbox controller easily lasts a month as well. They made the better choice, there simply is no argument.

If the PS5 controller got even just 24 hours of gameplay without needing to charge I would have said sure it makes sense, but it’s already compromised and then they nerfed it even further.

What lost functionality? I sit within distance and it reaches fine, doesn't bother me one bit. I've done it since launch and only bought a second controller this year.

Of course the XB controller lasts longer, it doesn't have half the features...

You’ve lost wireless functionality.

And to be able to do that you either went and bought a third party cable or you sit outrageously close and not possibly in a comfortable position.

I don’t care if it doesn’t bother you, it annoys the **** out of me and I’m also their customer. I’m allowed to be dissatisfied with their product.

And it’s got nothing to do with features. You can turn them all off and the battery life still sucks.

I ordered the PSVR2 now and just got the charge base straight out of the gate because it’s clearly Sony’s plan to sell more hardware.

Quite honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they agreed in some boardroom to compromise the thing on purpose just to sell more charge docks.

Problem is it's just one 1,500 mAh battery. Even with all features disabled, battery life is still bad. Xbox controller takes 2 AA of whichever capacity you choose (or the proprietary battery pack if you prefer to play and charge at the same time). You have a choice.

Even 2 x 2,300 mAh rechargeables are already 3 times the capacity of the PS one. It should be enough to take the current 8 hours to 24 hours. At 4 hour sessions, that should be good for a week. It's purely an issue of capacity...

The PS controller charging dock is really poorly made.

Was wondering why my back dock wasn't charging, and turns out that 2 of the 4 contacts are completly bent out of shape…

Trying to correct them with tweezers.

When I had my Xbox the first thing I had to do was go buy batteries for the controller, and no, the controller did not last a fukn month - maybe if you don't use it at all. You can have your preference, I have mine and I've also used both. I'd take more features and a rechargeable built in over AA anyday

On the Xbox controller I always worried that one day I would break a tab on the battery cover
