PS5

Horizontal is very fragile, it can be bumped off the stand easily as it's just resting on it. Vertical is solid, it's screwed onto the stand instead.

Only reason I want to store it horizontally, is that it will be out the way, and inside the TV stand. (Ventilated area where the Xbox one is)

There's also conjecture out on the internet that the liquid metal melts and pools at the bottom of the chip when vertical. Use it / Don't use it.

Yeah, I read that. Seems like a non issue though; due to the gasket being sealed.

There is definitely some merit to that theory though, it's not that the gasket is leaking, just that gravity is pulling the liquid metal down over time causing dry spots which could potentially cause the SOC to run hotter. Whether or not that is a concern is unknown.

Might be a good idea to open it up after 2 years and make sure everything still looks good - source of this is from this video:

If switched it to the horizontal position as that’s neater on the tv stand. Thanks for the link to the video.

Exclusive – Sony is Developing Wireless Earbuds for The PS5

Sony’s earbuds are called ‘Project Nomad’ and come with an approximate battery life of about 5 hours. Project Nomad will also include a charging case that will make use of the USB-C connection on the PS5 for charging.

The leaker reports that Sony is also working on a new wireless headset called ‘Voyager.’ This headset is said to be similar to the Sony Inzone H7 headset, and both the Nomad and Voyager are targeting an FY2023 release window.

In terms of headsets, PlayStation users already have plenty of first-party options to choose from. The Pulse 3D Wireless headset serves as a budget-friendly option, while the Inzone line-up can cost up to $300 for a more premium experience.

The new earbuds could cater to a new audience that prefers options like the Apple EarPods and Samsung Galaxy Buds. Additionally, the ‘Voyager’ headset could offer a middle ground between Sony’s previous headset offerings.

For users who prefer third-party headsets, nearly every major gaming brand has options to choose from. However, Sony’s ability to fine-tune the headset and earbuds with software support could give these products an additional edge over the competition.

PS5 sales up 200% in Europe – Report

The PS5 landed at number one in the European console charts in January. Sales were up 202 percent year-over-year, while the Switch and Xbox Series X/S were down.

After Sony had been struggling with delivery problems for two years and the PS5 was rarely found in stores or online retailers, the console now seems to be reaching end customers much more frequently. This is also indicated by a comparison of the European sales statistics for January.

“In European markets, January PS5 sales are up 202 percent year-on-year,” writes Christopher Dring, Head of Gamesindustry. on twitter.

Across European markets in January, PS5 sales are up 202% compared with the year before (when there were big stock shortages). PS5 was the No.1 console last month, Switch falls to No.2 (sales down 11% compared with Jan 2022), while Xbox Series S and X are No.3 (sales down 32%)

At the same time, the PS5 became the most successful console on the European market last January, followed by the Nintendo Switch with eleven percent fewer sales than in January 2022. The Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X came in third place together. Year-on-year, sales fell 32 percent.

Absolute numbers were not given, so the distances between the consoles cannot be evaluated. However, the rankings and the enormous increase compared to last year make it clear how much the PS5 has been affected by the delivery problems since the launch.

Also in the US, the PS5 led in January die Hardware-Charts an, which applies to both sales and dollar revenue. The Switch came in 2nd place there.

Achievements with The Last of Us and new model

Ultimately, January was a successful month for PlayStation, which was reflected in other areas of the company as well: HBO’s The Last of Us is making headlines with every new episode and bringing millions of new potential players to the PlayStation world. After the start of the series sales increased noticeable from “The Last of Us” and “The Last of Us Part 2”. And the sale of the PS5 should also benefit from this.

The end of the road does not seem to have been reached for a long time: For months, the rumor has been circulating through the internet that Sony wants to launch a new model of the PS5. It is said to have a removable drive and unify production. This goes hand in hand with even higher availability, according to the first forecasts.

Additional reports on the topic:

Another piece of hardware will be launched next week: PlayStation VR2 is conquering the market. It will be released on February 22, 2023 at a price of around 600 euros. More than 30 games are available in the launch phase, including Gran Turismo 7, the made compatible with an update becomes.

Man, Microsoft really screwed the pooch with the Halo TV franchise. They could have made something really successful too.

I bought the PS5 controller for my PC quite a while back and have played with it a lot on the PC.
Then I played Astrobots and I thought to myself, wait is this the same controller?

Implementation matters a lot.
Also just saw what Playstation Plus Extra has too offer.

I also have an Xbox Series S, with game pass ultimate. Getting the PlayStation with the subscription feels like I just made my 10 year old Steam library irrelevant and it was no small library.

With the PS4 I bought one just before the PS4 pro was released.
Now I want to buy a PS5. What's the feeling out there?
Will we even get a PS5 pro? The PS4 pro was to enable 4K gaming on the relatively large 4K TV install base. We don't have that "problem" this time around.

With the PS5 and XSX already pretty powerful, will we see the same scenario where some games tend to run like crap on the base console?

There most certainly will be a refresh at some point relatively soon. Whether it will just be a slim model or a "pro" model is unknown. I don't suspect they will release a pro model though as there isn't really any reason to, unlike with the PS4 Pro where 4k started to become a more widespread thing mid-generation.

You can always resell the console after a while if you want to upgrade to a newer one though, the Sony consoles tend to hold their value pretty well.
