PS5

"Duh" me at your peril ;)

The point is that MS publicly saying their asses are being kicked in sales, to try and buy up IP and become dominant is a desperate measure in itself.
Honestly, its working. Between Starfield, The Outer Worlds 2, and Hi-Fi Rush, its becoming tempting to get a Series S as a secondary console.

Sure.

Edit: I truly hope Starfield is an epic game - it's my cuppa tea. But I point you gently to the monster release that was Halo....

weekend comes, no ps vr2 :crying: brutal watching the rest of the world enjoy
Certainly a bummer for people who can only really play on weekends. I ordered the Horizon PSVR2 bundle and will probably only be able to check it out properly next weekend. Got a hectic week lined up with work.

Same here. Grinding week.

Mine arrived. At least got to hold the controllers. First impression is that the quest controllers feel better, my finger doesn't feel like it's resting on the trigger, or it's not just for big hands. The grip button, takes quite a bit of pressure to press in and is pretty flat. So I don't expect the ability to squeeze an object till it pops, like the valve index can do. The rings are pretty big, boxing seems doable, two handing a pistol might be hard. Analog stick feels pretty cheap and small. Again for tiny hands (Or tiny fingers).

But it's not bad, just not as great as it could of been. Would not play without the straps since these will easily slip.

My Koodoo PSVR2 order arrived this morning. I guess it's just my hand size, but the VR controllers feel nice and well-built to me.

I don't have time to play games today, but I spent around 15 minutes briefly checking out the Kayak game and Call of the Mountain. Both are utterly incredible. I already know I'm going to get super into VR gaming on PS5. The immersion is a whole different ball game.

I'm not sure why Takealot doesn't have the PSVR2 up as yet. I'm itching to get this more and more as I read the PSVR2 gaming reviews. Bearing in mind that the main caveat against getting this right now, is that a lot of current VR titles were available on PC etc. before. I didn't play them, so all good for me.

And then there are apparently loads more games in the pipeline.

Pricing aside, this seems to be a complete winner for Sony.

Finished The Last of Us part 1. Brilliant game.
Tried the new spider man game. Not for me. Too fast paced.

Now playing Mafia. As I couldn’t find anything else decent to play. Game is pretty decent.

Grabbed one from Canal Walk yesterday after I left work. But was so knackered from work that it is still sitting there unopened.

Judging from today so far, think it will remain unopened tonight....

Only a few minutes spent on RE Village demo, but daaaamn! I need to make my play area bigger, but the moving around mode is freaky! Standing mode is great, totally immersive.

Maybe it's the game, but graphics are nowhere near as good as my flat-screen. But that's irrelevant, it's so immersive you don't notice and certainly don't care.

The controls are going to take a while to get used to I think - it's a totally different world to the normal controller, imo. L1/L2 and R1/R2 keys need to be switched around I reckon. I'm sure games set up will allow that.

Downloaded Call of the Mountain now, but will save it till tomorrow.

I'm thinking there are some good times ahead!

Coming from an Xbox - it taking me a little getting used to for sure!

Enjoying Mafia at the moment though!

Bought RE8 when it was on special just before the PSVR2 release. It breaks a lot of best practice VR design, the camera will move a lot without your input during cutscenes. Although getting dragged around in the mansion was kind of fun.

The mansion looks incredible though in VR, you can really get up close to objects. Checking out paintings/furniture/statues and all the small things.

I compared the quest controllers to the psvr2 controllers again and the analog is exactly the same size, just the inner part where finger rests is different. Circular buttons much smaller though on playstation.

Getting use to wearing the headset, but it becomes uncomfortable after 40 minutes. My quest2 bobovr strap I have, has added supports for the top of the head that makes a huge difference for the long sessions.

Thing that bothers me most about the headset so far is the Mura, kind of spoils the dark scenes. Darkness and lights are great, feels like they can actually blind you. But mura looks a lot like a screendoor effect or dirty lenses(film grainish) effect.

Oled is a big tradeoff in the end. I would almost prefer the crystal clearness of lcd. Quest2 at near max resolution is pretty good.

But damn some scenes just look amazing on the oled.

One more thing, SteamVr game prices in South Africa has been amazing. Have to pay like 3 times more for the same game on PS5. Hoping for the subscription route to pay off in yhe long run.

Sony announces 2023 TV lineup: better late than never

An incredibly bright QD-OLED leads the charge, but it’s mostly modest upgrades everywhere else. Sony is putting a bigger emphasis on eco-friendly settings and introducing a new gaming menu.

After making the unusual decision to wait until after CES to announce its latest TVs, Sony is finally introducing the 2023 lineup of Bravia XR sets. The new lineup includes a wickedly bright QD-OLED at the top of the pile, but this is otherwise mostly a year of iterative refinement and modest improvements. Several of the TV models have gained more dimming zones and slight brightness improvements compared to the sets from last year that they’ll be replacing

Sony joins the game menu train

Just like Samsung, LG, Hisense, and others, Sony will now display a settings menu tailored to gaming instead of making you dig through the normal screens. Sony’s implementation lets you toggle VRR, motion blur reduction, black equalizer / contrast adjustments, and a persistent on-screen crosshair. There will also be an option to adjust the screen size of your game if you want a smaller window on a large-size TV for whatever reason.
Unfortunately, Sony’s game menu doesn’t display the current live frame rate; that’s a data point that some people like having access to so they can easily monitor performance, but with this, you just get the current resolution and max frame rate.
Sony isn’t sharing pricing for any of the new Bravia XR TVs just yet. But with competitors already shipping out their 2023 lines, I’d expect those details to arrive sooner than later.
