PS5

4. If the disk is scratched, lost or broken - you have to buy it again…
Blu-ray is very resistant to scratches so unless you have kids that’s hard to achieve. Also you need to lose things sometimes to make space for new things in your life. You are not your possessions.

Interesting topic, I buy mostly digital out of convenience I admit, but physical is great for secondhand deals. Especially if you’re a bit of a #patientgamer like me. Hopefully physical survives for a long time still

Pick a friend. Login on their console. Make it your “home” console and bobs your uncle.
They do the same.

Alternate who purchases games

Wait, so if I have purchased games on my PS5, that also have PS4 versions, then my bother would be able to play them on his PS4?

But I will need to log into his console, and then make that console my “primary”?

What is the downside to this?
Why would everyone not do this with a friend?

Only downside is you would need to be online to play your games. If you don’t have solar/inverter or Fibre that stays on during loadshedding it wouldn’t be ideal.

I do this with my brother for Xbox and PS5 games.

My PS5 is always in sleep mode (and I have inverter). Is this online?

Great news for my brother

You should be fine. My brother struggled a bit when they had a Vuma outage and he couldn't play games he purchased but could play mine. But again, that is by design.

Set it up for your brother, I'm sure he'll be chuffed. 50/50 on the yearly PSN sub also

I actually think there might be no downside between a PS4 and PS5, I suspect it will see it as a separate primary.

The downsides relate more to the same platform in that you have to always be online.

This includes other profiles on your console, your account will need to be signed in and connected to the internet for them to play the games you own.

This is where Xbox is a little better as all other profiles work just fine without your account needing to be online.

Yeah, this video shows that it is set a “Primary PS4”

This honestly seems pretty great (well, for the one on the receiving end  )

Well usually the other person would share back their games, but seems pointless between a PS4 and PS5.

Have been doing this for years across the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox One X and now Xbox Series X.

Haven’t done it with PS5 for the lack of others with consoles.

Most of those points are mute; if the disk gets damaged or lost and or the disk drive dies.

I don’t understand why anyone would buy physical media in 2023.

Also downloaded games can be played offline. But most consoles are useless offline, anyway.
I'm on digital for PS5, too, but this seems like such a weird counter.

I haven't had a disk get damaged or a disk drive die in my lifetime on any of my discs or devices.

If things randomly breaking or dying *can* happen, the same would surely apply to the console itself? Kids can damage disks, but they *can* also damage consoles.

I am digital copy enjoyer most of my games is on steam and then bunch of digital games on my PS5. I live in the Netherlands and for some reason the Spider-Man 2 physical copy was 65-69 euros and the digital was 80 euros, 10-15 euros extra for digital that ain't worth for me.

The game so far been a blast and so well optimised!

Game discs are surprisingly resilient.

I've got ~100 PS3 games which were bought used from various places which probably cycled through multiple owners and I've yet to find one that doesn't still work perfectly.

I'm gonna nitpick but digital games are tied to your account so it wouldn't be a problem if the console broke. However, I guess the other argument is that if your account gets banned for some reason you also lose everything!

Lost 2 drives on my PS4 Pro
