PS5

From what I can see it should be repairable...but not sure where you can take it in SA. You need someone to figure out where the short is happening. I saw a video of a guy fixing this issue by just replacing a teeny tiny capacitor on the board - for a fraction of the cost of a new device. Makes me think it's a fairly common issue unfortunately

Partserv is the official Playstation repair shop in SA, they also the ones where it gets send on warranty claims.

The question is not if it can be, more like is it cost-effective to do so.

There is this one YouTube channel I sub to (TronicsFix) that normally buy them in bulk and repair for views, kinda cool to see how they swap parts on the boards.

Thanks for the heads up. Only received it yesterday.

Is the airflow an issue? On open shelf in tv unit. Replacing the PS4 that was there for years with out problems, but don’t wish to create any.

Well it blows hot air out the back and it looks like there is limited flow out there.
So long game session, esp on hot days gonna fill and recycle hot air?

Dont think its a real issue, maybe move the unit more to the front?

Something that I have noticed is that my new disc version PS5 is much louder than my digital was.

The digital was completely silent.
This one I can hear the fan when it's running.

Sony gets parts from various different supliers, the different fans have different acoustic properties. Apparently the quietest ones are the Delta variant - I have one of these in my launch PS5 and I don't notice when the fan is running.

Yikes! I don't like it, take it away!

On a side note (no pun intended), have you tried putting it in a vertical position?
I've heard some sites report that the vertical position can cause the liquid metal thermal compound to run and potentially cause problems down the line - not sure if this is overblown or not but I run mine horizontally anyway.

I really wish that Sony would allow us to preload any game (regardless of whether we own it or not) - it would be cool if you wanted to, say, buy AC: Mirage at the end of the month, so you preload the files and then when you have funds/the physical copy, you just purchase/pop it in and can immediately start playing.

That sounds like a slow internet problem which most of the world doesn't have. Not sure if the market is big enough to warrant something like that but I agree it should be an option...

I've had my PS5 in vertical position since day one, three years later still ok.

That should be ok ... mine's been running like this since launch (but it is fully open at the back - as per design specifically for the PS airflow)

I think if your ps4 survived in there the ps5 will be absolutely fine.

Here's mine, although I'm not in the hot area of the world atm I can definitely feel hot air around that section, it has worried me and as AJ says it will circulate the hot air, so I've considered maybe taking a saw to the back area and opening it up a bit more but don't really want to ruin the look so, meh just leaving it for now

As with all things I suspect the truth is somewhere inbetween.

I can totally see how over time gravity could cause some of the liquid metal to migrate downwards and cause dry spots but it's also obviously not going to cause much harm for the majority of cases.

Tronicsfix has opened up a lot of PS5s showing dry spots on the APUs, you can't be sure what that's caused by but gravity certainly is a possible scenario.
