PS5

I started the thread... and eventually gave up on the game... 40 odd hours in.
Nuff said.

Very repetitive. Too many load screens. Not enough to do. Enemies all too similar.
My current rating would probably be 7/10.
Very good graphics and buttersmooth action. Loads of potential to grow with mods and planets being filled with actual fun stuff to do and explore. But at the moment it's just a bit too meh imo.

^ That said Looking at the new release I will def revisit.

Yeah out of FOMO I also paid for the early release version which came with the DLC.
Looks ok, but let's wait and see...

Sure this will eventually come to PS5. My guess is closer to release of the DLC they will use the spotlight and announce perhaps the vanilla version for the PS5. It's money up for grabs after all

Yea but this is my point. They want you to buy consoles, especially the new ones. They are not going to more than double the price, that is just crazy talk.

Mark Cerny literally just did an interview where he talks about the price and how important it is to deliver a 'nice package', they know it won't sell if they don't.
You're blowing the "double the price" thing out of proportion. It was an example. The point is that without price controls (competition being the natural one) in place, they are in full control. And I don't care what Cerny says or how some might view PC as a competitor (it isn't to many)...

As per my Example PS3 release price that dropped as the 360 was taking the market.

Funny but there wasn't much concern for 'price controls' when MS went on a buying spree and consolidated a third of the gaming industry...

And you should care what Cerny says, since he's the one responsible for not giving you a R25k console...

Even funnier when MS just announced a $600 console

I do not want anyone to run solo without comp.

They have competition, PC is a competitor, whether you like to admit or not.

Look, PlayStation is Sony's biggest money maker, if you think they will jeopardise that just because MS don't make HW anymore, well I simply don't agree.

And even if they do it, people will stop buying their ****, and they will walk it back.

All of this is rather pointless anyway, because MS literally said they are busy making a next gen console, so what exactly are you guys worried about?

Most people I know that play games wont wanna put a PC under the TV in the lounge.

Not worried, just saying some fans are quick to call for the death of a competitor. I'm just saying be careful on what you wish for.

I understand that, I'm one of those people.

But there are also people that are switching to PC, more and more. If you look at the annual growth for these markets you will see that console is barely growing (like 1% or something), while PC is doing better overall (closer to 8%). On this very forum I have read many comments of people switching to PC from console, imo it's a real competitor to consoles like PS5/XSX.

I did the opposite. Was mainly a pc gamer where now I game on console almost exclusively. Both PS5 and XSX.

But yeah, pc gaming is really growing in popularity.

Same for me, last gaming PC I bought was in 2017. And at the end of 2019 I decided I'm not going to fork out the money to upgrade it and went console. Maybe I will get a PC again in the next few years but I don't feel like I'm missing anything at the moment. But this again just brings me to my point, the entry cost is really key here, consoles are still cost effective and have to be in order to be successful, imo.

Erm I have an X and PS5.

Yes I mainline Xbox But PS5 sure has some great exclusives, eg Stellar Blade that I finished just 2 weeks back also the new GoW, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderboy Miles not to even mention Final Fantasy. QUOTE]

I literally don’t have the time! I’m unable able to keep up with what’s available on the PC (povo spec 2060) and Gamepass and would likely only be able to make time to play GoW (i loved GoW but GoW:R disappointed me).

I’d love to get one but if it’s going to gather dust then it doesn’t make sense.

Man, consoles really should be getting CHEAPER as time goes on.

Like phat PS4 cost R6299 at launch. and 3 years later a PS4 slim was R5199 (with the PS4 Pro at R6999).
Now the PS5 launched at R9999/R11999 and 3.67 years later we're at R11999/R13999.

Can't be the ZAR/USD either, because it's gone up 15% from Nov '20 to now while during the same Nov '13-'16 period it went up 35%

Nope it's not they increased the prices as well

It's decent, not great, until you get to the endgame. Then there's nothing to do. Probably 7/10 for the main campaign and then 3/10 after that. The replayability is a variation of the NG+ mechanic...
Why does every game need an extensive "endgame"? Totally fine for a single player RPG to not have an "endgame".

Why shouldn't it? It doesn't have to be anything elaborate, even just some form of multiplayer to keep the engagement going.

Look at the original Mass Effect 3 for instance - despite having a strong campaign, it just had a basic co-op MP using the existing game maps. It didn't get any updates or new content (apart from story DLC). And that was good enough to garner a strong following for years.

Why shouldn't people be kept engaged with games that they enjoy?

Don't know if they should be giving up hardware, for no other reason than helping to keep pricing in check. I don't want to pay R25k for a PS6 because there wasn't an alternative that may have sold their next-gen system for R17k...
I don’t think they are giving up hardware, they’ve openly said they are working on the next generation at the Showcase.

However I think people (the Xbox fanboys especially) need to stop thinking about it as Xbox vs PlayStation and rather think of it as Game Pass vs PlayStation.

It doesn’t matter if the games go on PS5 as well, the difference being you pay for each one individually and maybe with a minor delay.

Game Pass you get it on Day 1 and you then choose your vessel of delivery whether it be Cloud, PC or Xbox hardware and off you go.

It’s not at all dissimilar to PC itself where you choose your entry point and manufacturer.

And again it’s why console sales numbers no longer make sense as a metric for competition.

All of this is great for the consumer so anyone moaning is being really dumb about it.

Just dump the hardware they are not selling any anyway. S is keeping tech back and PS5 Pro will be lapping the X soon.
This is such a weird one sided statement to make when Sony has openly said the PS4 is still their biggest fan base and they specifically cater towards it.
