Hi,

I have a choice between the PSP and Nintendo DS Lite.

Which one should I take ? Why ? :D

PSP... Graphics, homebrew apps > DS homebrew apps.. You can store "backup" ISO's on your memory stick and play them off the memory stick...

You can view images, videos, and listen to music

etc etc etc

DS...far more interactive. It's selling way better than the PSP too, which obviously says something.

PSP if you want a few good games and entertainment (music, movies etc)
DS if you want fun fun games but no movies, mp3's (unless u get a cartridge)

Well it all comes down to what you want out of the console...

If its crap graphics etc then go for the DS

Yeah I guess it does. If you like pretty games with no substance, then I guess the PSP is for you. If, however, you prefer reasonable graphics and games that do have substance, the DS is for you. The majority of the world are tending towards the latter.

Doesn't matter how it's doing overseas. What matters is how it's doing here and what's available for each portable here. PSP wins in SA, and it's not exactly like it's dead overseas.

Apart from that, the PSP is far more versatile. Homebrew on the PSP is light years ahead - it even gives you access to the huge PS1 library.

OK let me rephrase...if you want to play games, then get the DS. If you want to do goodness knows what else, get the PSP :)

I'd like to tout myself as a mature gamer and having been an owner of both handhelds and having had the chance to play dozens of games on both of them the PSP wins by far.

Bottom Line
- DS has a greater game library than the PSP but DS games have a much lower overall rating in comparison to the PSP
- Homebrew wise, PSP
- Interactivity with 3rd party appliances, PSP
- Multimedia wise, PSP

If you like kiddier games like Mario, Kirby, Pokemon, etc. go for the DS.
If you like games more mature games ala Need for Speed, GTA, FIFA, etc get the PSP.

The touch stick is barely a novelty and in all earnest it was a greater nuisance for me than something fun. Both handhelds cater for a large variety of games whether it's RPG's platformers, etc. but if you're looking for truly engaging games with heart moving stories and characters of substance you're definitely looking for the PSP.

Out of ~60 games that I've played on the DS I truly savored 4 games: 2 Megaman games, and 2 Castlevania games. Kirby, etc are fun for a short while but it's mostly intended for the kids and adults will rarely find it captivating

Out of ~90 games that I've played in the PSP I thoroughly enjoyed about 35 games and that's taking into account that I'm not a GTA, Tekken, NFS, etc. fan.

hey there. I own a psp and and a DS and I am somewhat of a sony fanboy...psp has the latest firmware (cw) homebrew isos etc etc but honestly since i've got my DS, my psp has been collecting dust for one simple reason....I enjoy playing games, period.

Yeah psp has good homebrew, multimedia features, blah blah...but of recent, the games are rather sucky and still expensive. somebody mentioned that in order to get something out of the DS you need to buy a Flash cart...theyre right but in order to get anything out of the psp, you definately have to fork out for a decent sized memory card so in my opinion, that point is moot.

In terms of isos vs roms; roms win hands down. the graphic to file size ratio in the psp is really bad. you can have a decent library of ds games in a day, and with our country broadband situation, thats a real plus.

but for me the real winner with the ds is the innovation in gameplay. yes there are stinkers, but the gems really shine...blindingly!!

lets put it this way, if you want a little of everything in terms of entertainment (movies, music, internet, gaming) a homebrewed psp is probably the way to go, but bear in mind, it is homebrew and homebrew is...well...homebrew :D sometimes buggy, requiring some sort of homebrew knowledge and no official sony (proffesional type) support....what I'm saying is that the psp just that, a portable playstation, not an amped up ipod. eventually you will find, like me, its sheer bulkiness will overshadow its media homebrew "coolness" :)

The DS has great games and gameplay and its repertoire of games is just growing...fullstop. Yeah, its also true that some game producers/coders use the touchscreen pathetically, but the its use is improving drastically (the world ends with you; drone tactics, etc.) and i see it only getting better.

Look, respect to the psp, its a great handheld; sony wanted to shrink the playstation and they did a bang up job but the ds is simply more fun.

so in the end its great fun vs arguably mediocre functionality...you decide.

hope this helps.

To each his own, I guess. Personally there's only so much Mario, Kirby and Yoshi that I can stomach.

I'm still looking at something for myself, I haven't bought yet, but the DS is without a doubt my preferred choice. for one extremely simple reason:

Gameplay > Graphics

The DS games are far more fun and interesting than the PSP which basically has a bunch of consoles ports that were better on a big telly anyway. Ninja Gaiden DS, Zelda, Apollo justice, Final fantasy, they all look excellent.

As far as Media playing goes, thanks but no thanks O' PSP. It's big , clunky ad not exactly what I'd call convenient, I'd sooner get a dedicated media iPod/phone/whatever and a DS.

I differ. Gameplay on the PSP has been far more satisfying than the DS. Graphics play a persuasive role at most but almost never a decisive one.

Bottom line (and I'm generalising here)
Under 16's - DS
Over 16's - PSP

If you enjoyed the games on the PS1/PS2 and you'd like to have more of them but portable, buy the PSP. You've got FIFA's, Tekken, God of War, Prince of Persia etc etc. The majority of the top games are all ones which you'd find on a standalone console.

If you've gotten tired of those kinds of games and would like to try a whole lot of different (some good, some bad) ones, get the DS.

The great thing about the DS is that it has games that are different.

Yeah, I've enjoyed the DS style games a lot (Phoenix Wright, Phantom Hourglass, Professor Layton, EBA, etc etc). I do own a PSP, but if I want to play FIFA I rather just use my PC where the graphics are better, the controls are tighter, the frame rate is higher, and the load times are shorter. Otherwise I can fire up the PS2 for other PSP-type games.

To be fair to the PSP, I did enjoy Jeanne D'Arc a lot.
