Regardless if i use the antenna or the bunny ears it automatically connects to the same tower. it will always connect to the tower which is closest and with the strongest signal. So obviously when I am home my cellphone and router uses the same tower, hence me getting the exact same speed.
I have switched my routers band between 1800 and 2300, it connects to the same tower.

In my case, the closest tower is not in LOS. The one I use is, but a few meters further.

That is the catch-all excuse yes.

BUT, let us suppose the following scenario ( not saying this is what is happening anywhere).

(1) put in fibre, plan fibre rings, install 172 core cables ( or any other combination you like of fewer cores).
(2) Install backbone capacity, choose to deploy ME or GE but restrict the capacity to 1 Gbps ( Excuse money)
This will require in some cases the complete replacement of equipment when an upgrade is required. ( Can't remember the equipment T was using at the time, but this IS the scenario we faced with Telkom.)
(3) Instead for about 10% more install 10GE or 10G ME, sub equipped with line cards (slightly more CAPEX yes but immediate upgrade is assured). This is the scenario followed by Neotel.. Upgrades are just a configuration issue and maybe a line card to be added.

Hahaha, yeah you have a problem :p

So i'm curious, when you connect to the other tower (if possible), does your speed remain the same?

The minimum standard is 10Gbps ME.

Same speed more or less, but only 2 bars signal, with antennae pointing in it's direction, through a building.

Seems like everyone's problems is fixed besides for us here in Pretoria.
Wish i could also go home and meraciously get 90Mbps like Cavedog.

I got hold of telkom yesterday regarding the degrading speeds in Pretoria. All I was told is they are aware of the issue and have technicians looking it. I'm in Pretoria East

Tested the router on 3G. Doesn't connect. Has signal, but cannot connect on 3G.

So there's your answer on that.

No Way

If there is LTE at a site then there is most definitely metro-ethernet (fibre) links to that site.
Yoh grumpy old mod
May I send my location and some photos of MY LTE connection.
IF there is ME I am sure looking hard for it ( see my LTE results posted some time ago )
I do see some microwave links though ..........
What is endlessly frustrating is that there IS fibre in the adjacent trunk road ( LOTS of it -- mostly ALL DARK )
Telkom -- come and save me
:D

Precognition

There is another possibility... I'll have to chat to some connections to see if it is possible. They could be limiting the throughput from the LTE services in the exchange, i.e. preventing the LTE users from congesting the backhaul links for customers using other technologies such as 3G, DSL, etc.
I think I mentioned something along these lines some time ago ?

ALL Telkom LTE sites are provisioned with fibre.

No fibre = not on air = showstopper.

PS. retired :)

Weelll they must have forgotten about the microwave dishes !
IF
There is fibre to this high site ( and I very much doubt it )
WHY
Can they not provide fibre to me ( I am within short walking distance of the high site )
PS ; Pissed Off

Are you very sure that there's LTE equipment on the high site? PM me the location, please?
