What did they take issue over? But South Africans do not have an iTunes store to access because Apple took issue with South African copyright law.
What did they take issue over?
I meant what issue they had with South African copyright law.The costs of setting up, maintaing a store plus additional issues
make it prohibitive in terms of cost. Remember also that Apple
pulled out of SA and has no direct presence here.
But there is a catch. As soon as you unsubscribe from the service, you lose access to every track you might have downloaded, plus the music has digital rights management (DRM), which means it cannot be transferred to any device from your phone.
eMusic sells music from more than 20,000 labels and 130,000 artists in the universally-compatible MP3 format at an affordable price. We strongly believe in independent music and its culture, and do not currently carry many mainstream, Top 40 artists. If you would like to suggest an addition to the eMusic catalogue, please let us know here. In addition, feel free to contact your favorite labels and tell them you want to buy their music on eMusic.
So common sense finally sank in at EMI, but we're too pigheaded/stupid to follow their example.MTN Loaded portal manager Thabiet Allie says DRM is used to protect the artists from piracy and that MTN has taken a position that DRM will be enforced.
Its definitely not the future, because it ties a consumer into one supplier and thats just not on.
