Does anyone know of 1) a program I can use to measure system load in terms of wattage and 2) software I can use to "test" if my powersupply is faulty/not providing adequate power?

I run a 350w (probably 320 real watt) PSU for an Intel E 2140, 1 gb ram, 40 gb IDE hdd, 16x dvd writer, Foxconn 8600gt. Is a 350w psu sufficient for this system?

The "rated" wattage is a load of nonsense, in my opinion.

Rather look at what each rail (+/-12V, +/-5V, +/-3.3V) can provide.

That system would not require much on the 5V rail. Most 350W power supplies should be sufficient.

The most reliable (and easiest) way to measure the actual consumption would be to use a multimeter.

350 is fine for that system, the 8600gt barely uses 2 watts.

Power consumption for the GeForce 8600GT is around 50-watts for the normal clock speeds... The minimum specs from nvidea recommends a 350W for the 8600gt

lol I was only joking but it seems I'm not far off :p
