I need a new psu.

my system specs. p4 3.2, mb intel 945gnt, 1 x sata 200g, 1 x ide 200g, 2 x dvdrw,1 x tv card, 1 x sb xfi gamer, about 4-5 usb devices connected permanently, gfx : asus en8800gtx, dell 24' monitor running at 1900 x 1200 native.

please recommend spec for psu and best place to get from.

A decent 650w should do. You don't mention where you are, so I can't recommend a place to get it from.

I'd say the coolermaster 460Watt would be fine, but then it's a little close. To be safe get the Antec Neo He 550Watt psu.

Dont underestimate the P4 :D

It is the prescott core right? But wait, does the physics work from the cpu or gpu?

Have a look at the corsair psu's, they seem to be superior in terms of quality compared to other psu's.

I say at least 600w branded psu anything less might starve yr system in full load.

I doubt it hey. Very doubt it to be honest.

460Watt coolermaster to be borderline and Antec 550w to be safe. Too many people go overboard or underboard with their psus. To find someone that's just right is almost impossible.

Yeah, you don't what him to buy a 460w now and then in 4 months he upgrades and then he has to get a new psu again... Get a 600w or 650w and be ready for future upgrades.

+1.

I'm getting the either the the Corsair VX550W or the older HX520W (hopefully) soon. Read a lot of reviews and they sound awesome.

Dude, if u carefully read what he's running you'll notice an 8800gtx and P4 which are very power thirsty. I ran my 8800gts and Q6600 with a 450w psu and had endless hassles, until I put in a 700w psu. Rule of thumb with psu's The higher the better.

+1 I run my Q9300 + 4GB RAM + HD4870 + etc on a Coolermaster 460W. Runs like a dream. Just Please stay away from the coolermaster 550W model people! Any other 550W+ should be fine for a P4 + GTX.

No-name brand?

Um, no

Brand name + higher price = almost always better.

if something looks like a good deal, it isn't

Stick to proper brand names (Aopen and gigabyte are not PSU brands).

Also get something with a 5 year warranty.

I would recommend one of the following 2 PSU's for 95% of people

Corsair VX550 - Antec neo 550W as alternative
Corsair TX750 - Enermax Modu82+ 625W as alternative
