PSU Woes

Hmmm, sounds like it may be the mobo at this point. Keep an eye on the cooler when you turn it on: does the fan try and spin?

There's no response at all... I'm thinking that the case switch it problematic, but have nothing to compare to.

You can use a screwdriver to touch the start pins on the motherboard. Also, does your board not have a LED on it to show that there is power coming through to it?

you coming right?
when in doubt post photos of your motherboard with everything connected, you may have missed a connection when you replaced the PSU. The power cord from the wall to the PSU may also be damaged, they are universal so try one from your TV or something if you have them lying around (if you are using the old one still, sometimes new PSU's don't include a power cord)

Thanks... replaced the connections like for like... -> CPU, Motherboard and Graphics Card (which I removed to test)... power cord is brand new...

Going to tap the local computer shop in Melkbos for some debugging assistance

I've got the same problem, I have two motherboards which are 2 years old... they worked perfectly. Unplugged them both and put them in the cupboard, 6 months later I set them all back up and both won't turn on... very odd, either corrosion or blown which to me is impossible. I've tried everything, don't know if it's even worth it trying to send it in, they'll just charge me a fortune to look at it

Confirmed that the motherboard has shorted somewhere...

Have been quoted for the Gigabyte B550M DS3H + Wifi but Haber little idea on where that stands in the greater scheme of things.

Suggestions please

Glad to see you are nearly sorted.

A few years ago we had power issues with our whole building, during high loads voltage would drop severely, I measured 152v at some point, with this going on I lost 2 low-mid range PSU's over the course of that year, but I never shut the pc down during the power drops, I figured they'll have enough headroom and fail safes to shut down if not, and they never faltered, I had two or three restarts when I was gaming with the voltage drops going on, other than that the low voltage had no noticeable effects.

Point is, provided they are of decent quality, regardless of performance they'll serve you well. Don't think I've heard of a PSU taking other components with it or failing in any dramatic fashion for over a decade.

Some other things didn't cope so well with the voltage drops, see this main circuit breaker that hadn't tripped
but slowly over time melted its internal copper contacts away, it was almost hollow inside as the copper decayed
to powder, the input lead's insulation has disintegrated from the extra current demand and heat at the breaker,
but not the breaker's housing as its not plastic, something kind of like Bakalite I think.

Examined it, found it was manufactured in 1952 SABS Patent pending.

The voltage drop was caused by the Neutral distribution bus bar for the buildings supply being corroded away
over time, was also original to the building, 1950's.

The lifts still use the same control system from then, everything is done with contactors, relays and timers, fascinating thing to watch, looks like this.

my issue is almost the same but different, lol.

I have "top of the range" PSU's and they are all still 100% perfect, titanium & platinum rated etc. How on earth do 2x motherboards just die whilst sitting in the cupboard for 6 months... they won't turn on, but they do have power into them as the little LED's are lit.. just no screen out so I can't see anything. Very odd.

If you live in Gauteng, static probably fried them.

I honestly wouldn’t overthink it. Just make sure your new board has the correct chipset. And don’t get sucked into the whole “gaming” scam, unless you plan on overclocking.

If it helps,

I thought my two year old PSU was giving up the ghost yesterday as it (1) Would not switch on (2) Then started to turn on for 4 seconds turn off, then over and over again...

Took everything off the MB, just RAM and CPU, same thing, left the GPU out , managed to get running again and then realized that out of my 4 sticks of 8GB RAM only two are now active,

So what I thought was a PSU looks likely to be a RAM issue....

Not sure if it helps.... just time consuming...
