Looking for some advice....

My son's PSU has just given up after a little over 2 years... It's the second PSU he's had on his gaming pc in the 3 years he's had it.
Is there anything I can do that will stop this?

adding: I have a solar system on my house, so the power almost never goes down.... only once in the last 6months due to an earth leakage trip.

Don't know if I'm just lucky but haven't had a PSU fail on me that I can remember (maybe way way back in the day). I have had a lot of computers and have multiple running in the house now, only one of the PSUs I have now would I classify as a "premium" model the rest are just "good". I wouldn't waste money on the cheap ones.

Never cheap out on a PSU - and I don't mean buy a bigger PSU, but always buy a high quality PSU. I normally just check the warranty - that way if it pops or gives issues I can just return it. Anything ≥ 5 years is good and ≥ 7 years is great. Some even have 10 year warranties nowadays.

What PSUs were these?

My advice will depend on what the answer is to the above question :D
First PSU was the Evetech one...

Replaced with a 600W Corsair

Cooler Master PSU Elite V3 230V

... lasted about 18months

Thoughts on this? (budget is playing a part in this)

Cougar STC 650W 80 Plus Power Supply

5 year warranty

Looking back at that PSU, it had a "limited 6 month warranty".... in hindsight, should have been a "flag"
The Cooler Master? It's three years.

If you're looking for something closer to the R 1k mark as with the Cougar, there are a couple options which aren't TERRIBLE:

I'd take the Gigabyte of the two of them, even though it has a lower capacity and is slightly cheaper.

As with most parts, don't get the very best, try for like 2nd place which is overall a lot cheaper (but still very good).
