All this test proves is people's obsession or dislike of odd numbers.
Here's my real problem with the question. Lets say I was half drunk and approached the question in a I'm lazy fashion.
I would see 5 pictures and I would analyses the question as "pick the odd one out".
Now the word odd just happens to be engraved in my sub conscience.
The first thing I would look at is the crosses and squares obviously because they aren't many in each picture. Everyone is quick to notice there's the same amount in each picture.
The total attention would then fall on the circles, and people always pick on the odd number.
Without giving it much thought I'd pick C, and I would of passed the question simply because I took the drunken lazy bastard approach.
As soon as you start to question the wording like "rule" and ponder on how the question applies to programming etc, it works against you.
