This would be a cool project. Count me in if something like this happensYes, something like a `big-ass SDWAN` is what I was thinking, if anything.

If I'm still here, I'm sure many are. Dade above is also one of the OG's if I recall.I wonder if the WUG members that were on IRC Post 2015 is hanging out here on MyBroadband.
Not only cheap fibre, but with the advent of internet based mesh networks (tailscale) also makes it pretty much obsolete.Edit: We can always kick start the WUG again, but I doubt there will be a ton of interest, Fibre is cheap and available pretty much everywhere these days
Not Wug related but your avatar makes me happy every time I see it. I have three ZX81s and still mess around with them often.This would be a cool project. Count me in if something like this happens

Hows Meshastic going - seems like a fun DIY project to get involved inI also still have a mast full of equipment that have been unplugged for a number of years already ... now I'm getting back into Ham radio and also discovered Meshtastic so the mast will be repurposed soon.

I think it's time for a meshtastic thread on myBBSlowly picking up momentum in Cape Town.
Some resources ...
* Meshtastic in South Africa (@Danie_V 's detailed write-up)
* Meshtastic Map (Nice interactive map showing nodes)
* List of Active ZA nodes
* Realtime Graph of the ZA mesh

Would have been interesting to use the 60Ghz spectrum for the backbone. You can get 1Gbps up and 1Gbps down using these:
that's what you think... ubnt baby wootage60Ghz only works less than 1km (in reality 500m) so not going to work between suburbs..

Redundancy for what?Other than for fun and maybe some redundancy, what would be the purpose?
Backup for fibreRedundancy for what?
The WUG was never an ISP, but rather a closed network. This is my understanding?Backup for fibre
