I was wondering about this as well, but I suppose it could be a couple of reasons, firstly it may be the case that if she moves to another political party, a lot of people who adore her could follow suit.

the second reason could be within the ANC itself. If she gets pushed into a more senior level at the ANC the corrupt bigwigs at the top level of the ANC may see it as a threat that she would clean the party up and kick all the corrupt individuals out.

(Read somewhere that one of her latest investigations is into the ANC using state resources to garner votes for the coming elections, and now she has death threats. Hmm...)

You know what is extra sad about this?

She probably knows who it is.

Think about it - through her work and her contacts, I think she has a pretty good idea of who has ordered her death. That must make it worse.

Both of those are weak reasons. She is very unlikely to move to another or enter active political life, she's more likely to become a vocal civil society type. The ANC will simply throw insults at her or ignore her if she becomes critical of their way as a civil society activist.

As for joining the ANC leadership that'd benefit the ANC as then she'd be under control.
 
Satirical report that I was shot, not funny – Madonsela

Cape Town – A story published on a satire website reporting that Public Protector Thuli Madonsela was in hospital after being shot wasn’t amusing, she said on Friday.

"I would never stand in the way of creative output and I understand that the website is satire-based. But for me, it must be taken into account that not everyone in South Africa may understand what 'satire' really means. I personally didn't find it funny,” she told News24.

In a story carrying the headline “Thuli Madonsela shot nine times outside her home” on www.satirenews.co.za, the site claimed the public protector had been gunned down by a bodyguard who was later found dead near the scene.

The report said police obtained CCTV footage that ostensibly depicted the bodyguard kneeling down and kissing Madonsela’s forehead.

“[He] then took off only to be found dead later with a gunshot wound on the head [sic],” the website detailed.

It was apparently unclear if he committed suicide or if he was assassinated “to kill the evidence”.

Madonsela said the story was also shared on WhatsApp and Twitter, leading to some people who saw it believing it to be true.

“Others were left traumatised. For me, it wasn't always discernible that it was just a hoax."

Last week the Sunday Times reported that Madonsela had been made aware of an attempt on her life, which had been planned to look like a car accident.

R740 000

The alleged hit was supposedly funded to the tune of R740 000 by a Western Cape gangster and Madonsela was made aware of this by a trusted informant.

She told the police's VIP Protection Unit and her security detail was strengthened while the allegations of conspiracy to commit murder were investigated.

Madonsela told the newspaper she was shocked and traumatised and didn't know where the plot came from*but thought it was probably revenge.

The public protector had further altered her personal schedule, ceasing to jog alone in the mornings and had taken care to monitor her security at all times.

The DA has since called for an urgent probe into the death threat.

Whahahaha lmao what a joke! :D So Thuli asked for an investigation because she was 'reliably' informed of a plot to kill her by her drag queen buddy Madikizela Malema? What's next? Pravin to call for an investigation into a Gupta plot to murder him as reliably informed by Evita Bezuidenhout? What a waste of time!

Thuli’s snitch threatened her predecessor

Cape Town - The informant who told Public Protector Thuli Madonsela she was the target of an alleged hit has admitted threatening to harm Madonsela’s predecessor.

Eleven years ago the informant, Sylvano Hendricks, a transgender woman who calls herself Queenie, phoned then-public protector Lawrence Mushwana and threatened him.

“I made the bomb scare directly and sent him a message,” she admitted this week.

Hendricks said she had been angry with Mushwana, now head of the SA Human Rights Commission, because he had dismissed information she provided which she claimed could have prevented the 2003 murder of Gauteng socialite Hazel Crane.

At the time, a local tabloid reported the informant had sent a message to Mushwana saying: “Lawrence, your time is running out. There is a bomb in your building – tick-tock.”

It reported Hendricks had been sentenced to 12 years behind bars for various crimes, including the threat.
