which should also be concerning as one would think the police chief would at least be informed when action is taken against another high profile state body

As I mentioned, right now he is the most dangerous man in SA. A law unto himself and he will keep doing this kind of thing.

Do you remember when Mzilikazi Wa Afrika broke the story about the lease of the building and he get arrested and taken to Mpumalanga on some other pretext?

Sickening how local media blows things out of proportion, they continue talking of a "Raid" even though the Public Protector came out and said there was no raid. Only two officers visited them to make a query. This sort of gutter sensationalism accelarates the advent of the tribunal daily, let them tighten their own noose.

Where's that weasel we have for a president? The SAPS is now just a gangster organisation, the don doesn't even need to give the word. His enforcers just go off intimidating anyone trying to paint him in a negative light.

How do you define raid ? It is not always armed officers storming a place ;)

I actually heard the PP's spokesperson. She said it wasn't a raid, rather 2 [-]goons[/-]officers showed ID and asked the protector about documents used in the report. She (the PP) gave them a list of documents, not the docs themselves.

A raid is when they turn up, turn the place upside taking documents away with them. They don't ask in a raid.

Depends.

Today is Thursday so it could be Julius, Friday nobody is in charge and of course there is no need to be in charge over a weekend. Vavi may have a turn on Monday if he's in the mood.

The public protector’s office on Thursday told Eyewitness News no documents were taken by police officers who visited the office on Wednesday. It also claimed it was not a raid, but an unannounced visit.

Members of the police’s Crime Intelligence Unit visited the office just days after Thuli Madonsela released a damning report into a R500 million property deal involving National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele, the Department of Public Works and businessman Roux Shabangu.

“People came to our offices unannounced yesterday (Wednesday) asking for information and upon inquiring they confirmed that they were from the South African Police Service (Saps),” said the protector’s Kgalalelo Masibi.

But, Cele’s office condemned what it called "a raid" saying it did not authorise it and will take urgent steps against those involved.

“It was not sanctioned by management of the Saps. Appropriate steps will be taken against those who conducted the raid or against the person, or people, who sanctioned the raid,” said the police’s McIntosh Polela.

In her report, Madonsela found the police headquarters property deal was "fatally flawed" and called for the national Treasury to investigate further. Cele claimed the report vindicated him, even though it called for action to be taken against all those involved.

It is understood the officers conducting the raid were looking for documents which were leaked to the media. It remains unclear who sanctioned the raid if it was not Cele’s office.


Meanwhile, Cabinet spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said he did not know anything about the raid but that Cabinet would follow the proper procedures in dealing with the public protector’s office.

When a question about the raid was put to Manyi, he said it was the first he had heard of it, but in his statement he said Cabinet would deal with the public protector’s report.

“Cabinet is going to ensure that there is proper governance. No corners will be cut,” said Manyi.

He added, “All the allegations will be dealt with. Just trust me on this one, it will happen."
