Public Service Broadcasting Bill comments deadline extended

Its so ridiculous to me that there is state sponsored TV, with adverts, that can't keep its head above water. When there are countless useless stations that seem to survive. I do not want my tax money (or TV licenses - same thing) to pay for this garbage when there are townships without the bare necessities. Ridiculous!

You are right.

But and unfortunately there is a but.....


TV in the 3rd world (and even the 1st world) is how elections are won (or lost) TV was, is and will be the most powerful media available to man. For the internet to take over is still a long way off. What I say here is nothing new, and that is evident in why the state (past and present) desparatly need control over that media.

I have personally listened to a ANC official stating that the main reason electricity is supplied to "informal settlements" (before other needs) is that electricity give those people access to television. To be "influenced" by Tv you do not need to be able to read or write. You need to look and listen, even if you do not undersand the language all the time the visual message come through loud and clear.

As for my 2 cents worth, I do not like been forced to pay for something (license / tax) and have not even remotely got a say over what is been "dished" (no pun intended) up.
 
So if I don't own a television or watch it at all my money still goes to the SABC? Not cool, not inteterested.
 
The government are masters at ensuring there is no incentive to improve. Give a'holes Sentech a competition free enviroment, and the ANC controls the airwaves.

Next they will use our money to buy digital set top boxes for the poor, so they can really lock up the propaganda parade.

Didn't MC drop SABC International because it was such crap?
 
In the past, they've never published the results, so we've never known the democratic outcome. It just gives the impression that the public had their say, when in actual fact, the ANC probably don't even bother to count the votes.

As usual, no matter what the public want, it just get wiped off the goverment's a'ss, and they do what they want anyway.

Can anyone remember any of these public votes being overseen by a reputable auditing firm?

Let's hope there are free-to-air news channels so people don't have to put up with the b'sh.t
