Pule not letting Telkom go

While the article is premised on a response from the Minister to the opposition and their views thereon. I find it really interesting that the Minister expresses a view on the matter at all. Surely it is for Treasury of public enterprises (by whatever name) that gets to input on the matter.
 
Wait long enough and perhaps they need not sell their stake - just give it away

Why? Why!? WHY!?

When you consider that we pay much, much more than most countries out there and actually have quite substantial subscriber numbers and are as a country falling behind not only the world, but the rest of Africa then some conclusions can be made.

A: The ANC prefers that funding for whatever ITC infrastructure is built in this country will be taken out of the hides of the relatively few people who can afford it at the moment than to let a competitive fully privatised ITC market naturally deliver the best possible service to the maximum number of people in a competitive environment. Because I just don't believe anymore that these people are so stupid that they cannot see the obvious.

B: Since progress for the ITC sector as a whole is actually painfully slow in South Africa we can only assume all the cash they are raking in is not going towards development.
B.1 Given that bad investment decisions are not being made (which we know is happening)
B.2 Given that a tremendous amount of fraud is not taking place (which we know is happening)
B.3 Given that the main focus of their developmental efforts will not in the current context (considering primarily the cost of service delivery) lead to a net loss (which we know it will)

It's not a pretty picture, but if the information passed on in the article is correct then these people are just not interested in good government.

NPs/ANCs what's the bloody difference? The person on the street is still getting a raw deal.

I'm starting to believe they in fact are that stupid.

Also I think they see the obvious allright, its just that when choosing to serve the country or lining their own pockets the temptation is too much to resist. Elected officials living like kings and rolling in the money while their 'subjects' are suffering or dying of hunger seems to be an African thing, dunno why everyone thought it would be different this time.

The biggest joke is on Manuel though, the ANC just pissed on his development plan.

Anyone still voting for the ANC or believing they can take this country forward is a fool.
 
Would there be any legal way to force government to sell it's stake in Telkom? If it could be proven that government ownership of Telkom is hindering the country's progress could it not be obligated by the constitutional court to sell it's stake?

We're still trying to prove how much the country's progress is being hindered by insanely expensive toll gates on roads that were supposed to be paid for with their Beemer fund. Baby steps.

Indeed, and the toll issue is like a red flashing billboard in front of their noses and yet they do not seem to posses the intellect to see the problem. Explaining the role of ICT and telecommunication services is just too high above the cabinet's collective quotient.
 
No we will not sell, we've seen how SAA could be bailed out time and time again, Telkom deserves the same favours from the tax paying citizens of this country.
