Otherwise why is it not sensational...?
Which brings me to the much debated old story that crime has not really increased. It is now affecting whites as well. Which means it is now more sensational and therefore more newsworthy!

Yes I know we look after our animals, now we just need to look after our people. I was not approaching this from the capitalistic angle, but rather judging the general well being of people and their rights. Both are appalling in Africa. Look at Sudan, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Nigeria, DRC, Sierra Leone, Rwanda (thought they have made some advancement), the list is endless.

Though in regards to looking after animals.. well the gorillas in the Congo have a different opinion on that.

The crime rate is too high. Whether it's increasing or decreasing slightly, by world standards we are in a warzone. It is too high. It doesn't matter whether there is a growing perception - the bottom line is crime is too high - the stats show it, the people say it. That is all that matters. Forget about the race issues for a second and stop the goddamn crime. That's all we as a citizenship are demanding. And we're all demanding it - not just the white folks.
 
The funny thing is that the guavamint loves telling us that poverty is the cause of crime, but surprisingly most African countries that are poorer than us, have a lower crime rates.

I think whats causing most of our crime here is that we are allowing people from other African countries into South Africa, but making it illegal to get real jobs, hence the only recourse is crime. I seriously think thats a factor. Though saying that, the people in my armed robbery were zulu`s.

The only way to solve this is to get them to help themselves.
Surely we should really stop pointing fingers at symptoms and just get the damn free education systems up and running aready.

1.5 bn on crime in Western Cape. I wonder how much they're spending on education. What exactly is happening with the training levy money?

Capitalism scale? Remeber that next time Mbeki asks for a loan or financial aid for Africa. I am sure Mugabe would love to hear that his country is achieving on other grounds. Like being number one for HIGH inflation. Capitalism scale implies employment, health, education, crime control, infrastructure, food and water! The capitalism scale is the only measure of performance.

The only reason wildlife runs over borders is because they don't enforce borders. If you go in to Africa you will find the locals do not give a ^*& about wildlife, it is usually a Western land owner which *owns* the land and the wildlife which protects the land for business purposes. If not for a business it is a Western land owner which protects it for prosterity. If it was up to the locals they would eat the wildlife.

If only the media would stop creating the impression that some lives are more important than others ( Leigh Mathews comes to mind, may God have mercy on her soul). Too many people have been murdered in my family but none has ever made headlines.
Let's treat crime accordingly and not turn it into some political tool.
A life lost (black or white) is one too many. It should be us the society against them the criminals. At the moment it's the ANC, the opposition parties, the media, FNB all wrangling for political points. The victims are left to fend for themselves and the criminals are having a field day.

The rise in some crimes such as bank roberries, cash in transit heists, house breaking, etc does correlate with the influx of foreigners. But that's just part of the crime problem.
 
Race debate is tired.

Too bad no one every debates cultural inferiority\superiority.

Funny, I never had that impression. The Mathews case was used because it made good television. A young pretty blonde student just mysteriously vanishing off campus will always strike a chord with the general public. It was a tragedy and her family showed how they felt.

Perhaps in your own mind you felt that she should never have been a story. You can tell us your reasons. I assume that since this is in the "race card" thread, that this point of view has something to do with her race. I also am tempted to think she is not the same race as you and you found it hard to identify with her plight for that reason. Am I right?
