Punching bag?

Mine was definitely not that expensive, but yes, it is exactly that. I paid about R2k, also at Sportmans, probably cheaper brand i guess , but this was a few years ago. You fill the base with water (very light when empty) , so it is pretty heavy and solid. I got me one because i didn't have a spot to hang a heavy bag and didn't want to do this in the garage, so that works well anywhere in the house...it gets tricky to hang a heavy bag from a random part of your roof and still have enough space around it to hit or kick ;)

I'd say the bag on this is not as heavy as the bags you hang from the roof. However the force with which it bounce back and having to actually adjust your timing and angle to hit it based on how it moves makes up for it.

I'd get a bag off Gumtree. So many people have your idea and then never get around to it, so they flog the bag for cheap.

I've got a heavy Everlast bag and its too light for me. Took out some of the material stuffing and replaced with PVC pipe filled with sand and taped with duck tape. Adds quite a bit of weight and doesn't change the feel of the bag.

You can always make your own using car tyres or other materials first to see if you enjoy boxing... http://rossboxing.com/2014/10/30/make-homemade-punching-bag/

Love Ross's blog.

If you're looking to build a cheap functional home gym or use what you have around then I recommend Ross's blog (rosstraining.com and rossboxing.com). He's great at using what you have and he's a big believer in low tech. I've found you can't go wrong with his suggestions - he knows what he's doing.

My legs are also very weak I've realised on the Orbitrek yesterday. After 2 min my quadriceps were on fire....then i stop for literally 10 seconds for the burning sensation to go away and start again...stop start stop start...bloody annoying
The best way to exercise for me. I get fit faster and easier with regular brief periods of intense exercise with no specific timing or plan. You can get a pretty good workout on those machines too.

Get the heaviest you can install/afford.You will be surprised how strong you get and then your bag will move all over the place with every punch which sucks.

I exercise at home. I have a couple of adjustable dumbells, an easy curl bar, and a yoga mat for pushups/situps. Been sick lately so haven't exercised for a few weeks but I usually use them 2-3 times a week.
