Punto vs Sandero vs ...

We're looking at getting a new car and trading in our two slightly older ones... anyone have any knowledge of either:

- Fiat Grande Punto
- Renault Sandero
- Anything in that kinda range

I have no experience of anything outside of VW so any help :D
 
Be cautious when buying vehicles manufactured outside SA. Find out part availability and costs. Maybe you should stick to VW, it cheap to service, cheap to maintain and it kinda keeps its value.
 
Thing is, this latest batch of VWs has built up a bad reputation (certainly from some owners and even some manufacturers) and they're quite expensive. The Sandero is built in SA which is one of the attractions but I'm not sure vs the Punto.
 
The Fiat is pretty nice for the price. The Sandero is a Dacia... I'm not convinced on the quality.

Have you looked at the Suzuki Swift? In the same price bracket and a really nice little car.
 
So far the Punto looks pretty good actually - anyone know what spares and so on are like?

There's also the Citroen C4 that looks quite nice but then I'm looking at a whole new price range :D
 
Spares and so on for the Grande Punto are not as bad as people make out. I have had one for 3 years now, and I'm very happy with it.
 
Nice to know Echo - no significant problems in those 3 years? What version do you have? :D
 
sort of lost mine, had one in red.... if it weren't for the dealer, i wouldn't have had any problems. please, dont buy any car from william simpsons in tokai, they are the worst dealership in the whole world!!
 
See I don't mind boring terribly much - the corolla would pretty much work for a family car. Unfortunately Toyota appear to believe I have money growing out of my ears.

I suppose it'll be interesting to see how much we get for trade/sale of our two cars (1999 1.6 Golf IV and 1995 1.6 Citi Shuttle). Of course - if anyone here wants one of them, special price - only R120k each.
 
stay away from imports

french cars are a shocker to maintain they can put them together but don't know how to put them back maybe the instructions are in french?
 
If you can go up to R180k, I'd suggest maybe a new Kia Cerato at R179k. That's a lot of car for the money.

run a mile from the VW. Get the Renault or Hyundai i20. Or even the Suzuki.
