Purchase TV without TV license

Those are about twice the price of a normal TV R15K and uo
 
Nope, not in SA that often and couldn't be bothered with crappy SABC or expensive DSTV

^ This, I refuse to pay a licence fee when the TV will never even have a aerial or decoder attached. I even considered taking the tv and asking the repair agent to "remove" the tuner to keep my side clear.
 
Agree borrow your a friend or relative for a day, and ask them to buy the tv for you

Hi guys, I have a bit of a different situation, I pay a TV license which is in my grand fathers name. He passed away overseas a few years ago, but I want to change on my name. If I apply for a new one in a store like Dion Wired then I'd still be paying for the other one every year... Any way to sort this out?

You'll have to send the SABC a copy of the death certificate (get it certified at a cop shop - less room for stuff-ups that way), along with an affidavit stating that you've taken over the payments. Make sure you are specific with dates on said affidavit. Then keep your fingers crossed that they don't cock something up along the way, knowing they likely will.
 
Easiest option actually...

Cancel his TV License... this will require you to send certified copies of Death Certificates etc etc to the SABC.

Make sure you keep absolutely every stitch of documentation you sent them, with confirmations of receipt etc etc.. because the SABC will cock it up in the future and they will attempt to charge you arrears on his license.

After you've cancelled, just go and get a new license.
 
I would put money on the SABC cocking it up. My daughter left SA in 2004 and wrote to the SABC to tell them. From about 7 months ago, first the SABC and now their collection attorneys have started nagging her for arrears. I even sent these attorneys a copy of the letter sent in 2004 plus a letter from her employer in London, yet they still phone and tell me that she will be blacklisted if she does not pay. I asked the lady who called last week if she had actually read the correspondence that I had sent and she said that was handled by a different department, and I must pay in the meantime. But I said, why must she pay if she does not live in SA. Then you must send proof. But I have done so but you did not bother to look at it, so why must I spoon-feed you? Again, the blacklisting threat was mentioned.
 
Eish, I'm not going through all that hassles, we don't even have the death certificate... Rather just carry on paying in his name, it worked for the last few years

Why pay? He's dead so they can't collect from him, blacklist him or sue him.

Then stop paying...

He's dead, they can't do anything to him anymore (especially if his estate has been wound up already)
 
True, that's the reason I wanted to go and get my own one, but at the same time not be paying for his one as well... We don't even have his original black and white TV he took out the license on in the first place :P
