Purchasing gaming console

Xbox fan
More games than PS3, cheaper
and Halo and Gears of war for FPS, um... FTW

also x360 fan, but ps3 got blueray as well as it can easily be converted into an entertainment centre. This is why i'm getting a ps3 very soon along with my new lcd tv.

PS3 is an entertainment center...
XBOX is a gaming console, so if you purely want gaming maybe an Xbox but if you want the whole shebang PS3 the way to go.

Odd, because my 360 functions as a media centre as well. Except I don't have to put up with the watermark problem that renders audio useless on the PS3. The only thing in it's favour is Bluray.

ok true.. what about the free PSN, XBOX live costs money to join and play online...

A big plus of PSN is being able to use real money instead of poxy points. But a big minus is the spotty availability of demos.

Neither Xbox nor PS3 is particularly good as a media player. By that I mean I cannot just put in a disc or plug in a drive and it'll play the files.

I truely wish it was so, but sadly I'm from the pacman and space invaders generation. These new games are too advanced for me. Only game I really got into was a street racing type game where you have to work your way up through the ranks and the police also chase you.

Get steam. Tonnes of Indie games have your name on them.

Look at Limbo.

If I could add my 2 cents, I would definitely recommend the xbox.
Not so sure about the Kinect, but the console itself has better games than a PS3 & friends say the online network on Xbox is far more reliable & stable than PS3.

Better games is a purely subjective assessment.

Thanks again for everyone's input, but after reading all the posts as well as experiencing the Xbox + kinect for myself (as well as the PS3), I have kinda made up my mind regarding the console and going for the Xbox. The kids enjoyed themselves and even my lazy 12 year old was sweating after playing one of the fight kinect games. They're trying every trick in the book to convince me to get one. Imagine if they knew what I'm planning, I'll never hear the end of it. Sadly they're going to have to wait until after the school exams:(, especially the older one as he has to get very good grades if he wants to get into a good high school next year.

Hi All

Just had a look at the Makro brochure. They've got a 250GB Xbox+Kinect Bundle for R3299. Is this a good deal or should I rather wait till later. If I buy it now it will be hidden away from the kids until after exams anyway.

Id go for it, i work at BT GAMES and our bundle is 4000, although it includes the 4gb model + 250gb hdd, kinect, two games and a 3month live voucher, so if u dont want the extras go for that bundle

Yeah that's a good bundle, go for it. You'd usually pay around that price for the 4GB bundle.

I finally went out and bought the Xbox360 bundle + kinect bundle. Also got three games with it for free. Only problem is that I'll have to wait until the kids are asleep before i can take it out of the car and then hide it somewhere that, hopefully, they won't find. They're starting exams next week so there is no way that they must even get a whiff of it. I'll have to try and smuggle it out over the weekend, to try it out at a friend's place. They won't be seeing much of me this weekend as "daddy will be working for much of the weekend":D

^^ hahaha, i can't help but feel that "daddy" won't quite be himself from time to time and they will figure it out :D, kids have a sense of kinection (sorry :p) to these things.

enjoy :)

Hi All
I see that the xbox360 only comes with one wireless controller. Now that's spoiling for an argument and a fight. Where is the best place to look for another one and are there other brands that someone can recommend that's also of good quality.
