If I could purchase an iPad 2 in the UK, what should i look out for. Some remarks have been made of the AT&T and Verizon models in the US. Is it applicable to UK? What else may be applicable to purchasing an Ipad in the UK and using it in SA?

I doubt anything other than the GSM model will be available outside of the US so you probably don't need to worry about that in the UK. :)

It depends. I strongly suspect they might be network locked as well. So you will have to await a jailbreak of some sort to let you use it here if it is locked. It was the dealbreaker for me when it came to the decision between an ipad1 or ipad2.

iPad 2 (and iPad 1's) are not network locked, so will work with out cell networks fine. UK has the same network technology as us, so you are safe to buy any model from there (as long as it isn't one imported from USA to UK and is the Verizon model).

Yes no problems with ipad from the Uk.

I am planning to pick one up when I pass through London next month just can't decide whether to get the 3g one, now that the iphone4 has personal wifi. I can't find a reason that I would need 3g outside what the phone pad combo would offer.

If they even have them by next month. Considering the US shortages we may see the UK release date being pushed back.

Apple has decided to delay the Japanese launch due to events there - this may ease the supply shortage.

Unless, of course, those models are different and have already been produced and allocated.
