Purchasing my first car

Wow, thanks for all the responses! Let me just add that I am buying the car cash, I have saved up enough money with the help of my parents. I do not plan to drive the car on my own, illegally. However I want to own a car before doing my test so I can become familiar with the vehicle by doing my practice and lessons in the car. The car can be purchased in my father's name. I have previously done my drivers (over a year ago) on an old car from a driving instructor and was not comfortable. Plus I had to pay R600+ to use the car for the test.

I am also not such a car person. I just want something reliable to get me from point A to B. Something small is good with me. Power is not too important, I don't plan on driving fast :)

PS: I'm a male :P

Well those d1ckhead dealers who advertise like that should be taken to the cleaners!!!!!!!!!

I don't get what the problem is? There is no legal requirement to have a licence to buy a car. If dealers want to sell cars to non-licenced people that's their business.

You're joking right?

Jesus Mary and Joseph!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the new bloody South Africa where law means absolutely nothing, and selling a car to a non licensed cretin is just fine and dandy - carte blanche to go out there and wipe out as many people as you can in one fell swoop!

DO............YOU.............NOT.....................UNDERSTAND..............THAT.............WE..........HAVE..........A GODDAM...........PROBLEM????????????????........... if we don't see that as being problematic???!!

God help me from dealing with bloody idiots!

There's obviously no cure for stupid!

Buying a car without having a drivers licence is not the same issue as unlicenced people driving cars. As I said before there are many legitimate reasons why a person might want to buy a car without having a drivers licence. We don't live in a police state. If someone wants to buy a car without having a drivers licence that's none of your or my business. You can't just assume that the person buying the car is going to break the law.

A friend of mine works at a car dealership and has a vehicle traded in. Ford Fiesta 2008 1.4i, Ambiente 5-dr, 80 000km, charcoal grey for R75 000. Full licensed and roadworthied. Thoughts?

Retail is between 76 and 83 and mileage is classified as low for its age, so on paper it looks just fine. :)
