Has somebody recently purchased any used or refurbished tech items from E-bay?

I'm asking as the law says you need an import permit to do this (http://www.gov.za/services/import/import-permit-general-goods) but I'm wondering if they really care if it's a single low value item.

I did order a used RAID card back in 2015 and don't recall having issues with this but I was oblivious to the above required import permit at the time. I just wonder what the risk is if I try this again.

TIA

You won't have any problems, permit is only really needed on high value items and if you bring in goods regularly.

They could not nail you if the equipment has a power adapter as it needs be NRCS certified.

Thanks, it's a motherboard I want to get so hopefully it won't be any issue then.

Nah, no issue. I've had used goods ranging from bike parts to pc stuff sent to me from overseas. It's not like you bringing the stuff in by the container load which is a different story and requires a permit.
