Just looking around the forum and found this old post.

I don't think Purple Trading will be able to afford to buy a car. Purple Trading made R1.5 turnover over 8 months at really low mark-ups excluding expenses, this translates into about R9,000 pm at 5% (but this seems to be much lower) - before taxes. With 4 employees? Somehow I don't think this "business" is profitable so a Ferrari is a bit ambitious. :(

Sounds like you work for Purple fly. In my view, making 1.5Million turnover over 8 months on very low margins isn't something to shout about, nor is it professinal for an owner to gloat about it on a public forum.

I have been on this forum since 2006 and have seen dozens of online busniesses fail, and they all had one thing in common - very low margins and very high ambitions.

The fastest growing online business is in fact not Pruple Fly, it is http://wwww.Webantics.co.za

Webantics.co.za has done everything right, including good realistic prices, great service that matches their prices and super fantastic marketing.
The owner knows what he is doing and how he is doing it, and the bussines is geared for success. The next big online shop is definately Webantics.

The top computer companies still remain at the top because they have the knowledge, experience and qualifications to do that sort of business, like http://www.DigitalPlanet.co.za (http://www.HPShop.co.za), http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/index.php and http://www.ComX-computers.co.za and i am sure one or two other top stores out there.

A lot of companies make millions in turnover every month, and in many cases, daily. SO like I said, R1.5 over 8 months.... Not cool...

*BTW I do not work for any of the above, Nor do I work in any supplier chain any longer, but I use to. I am also not promoting anyone nor demoting anyone, I am just presenting what I read.

I am glad I came across this forum story on google, because I had the WORST experience from Purple Fly Trading 49. Byron, the owner, was arrogant and RUDE and all I wanted was service. I WAS his (abused) customer.

He failed in previous businesses, what was he doing? Putting 3% on sales? Is this a joke? It is his attitude that put me off

He keeps saying how well he is doing on this forum, but his emails to me confesses to a completely different story ..

And after that email, he decided to bombard me with nasty emails, and they are all the same, one after the other, day after day.

He was rude. He used every word in the dictionary from A**h***, F**k, C**k, you name it, he used them all, even words I would not dream of using in one sentence, but he strung them all together to make entire paragraphs. It makes me feel sick :sick:

I am glad someone got some service, Shaun also helped me initially, everything looked fine until I started asking questions. Byron started his first email with this one after everything was confirmed by quote.

See the one that follows that one, even worse, and I have several emails from him, none of them good.

I eventually got a wrong price returned with bank details and informaiton of how to compliment them on HelloPeter and other sites. How arrogrant is that???

My reply

"Hi, there is a mistake, price is wrong. See my screen capture with corect advertised price, thanks :)"

After another hour of being ignored again, I obviously became impatient because now I knew something was wrong, false advertising and gross deception came to mind and I sent off this reply, which ironically was answered within seconds.

" Hey Byron, what is up with the gmail account ([email protected])?
I can send someone to collect, do not charge delivery. Please send address to ur office in Joburg.It has been another hour no reply. See email sent 2 ur sleeping drooling staff, I think you need to wake someone up, it took half a day to get the wrong quote and the wrong email address on it, no VAT showing and some crap comment about a ferrari. I am starting to feel uneasy. Could you please send me a referral's email address or phone number, such as a business you have dealt with.
My email is hotmail.co.za not hotmail.com! My mistake, but I did email about this in the morning. Thanks."


A reply seconds later and it all started going downhill form there - the customer abuse!

It became so bad that I sent his entire conversion to the media. No joke, this is bad business. I can imagine when my laptop breaks, how will he deal with it? Never in my life has anyone treated me like garbage as a customer. I did nothing wrong. I just asked a question. :mad:

I am not alone, he has similar complaints on internet complaint sites. It just stinks!

...as well as some of your other arrogant comments online - REALLY? No matter how angry/frustrated/annoyed you may be, the WORST thing to do is to lash back at your customers. For that reason alone, I think you have lost many potential customers. Try talk to me like that and I would also let the entire world know, and just FYI - most people ARE agreeing with him, so perhaps you worded that badly. It should have been "you are making me look like an idiot on mybb" bacause as far as I can see on this thread, almost no-one is willing to purchase from you anymore. There is no explanation or excuse, EVER, to call a customer an idiot.

As for bragging about being "first" on SA topsites, I think you should re-think that strategy - there are absolutely no "Big Contenders" in your area on there. Kinda like bragging about being "on top" in the special Olympics where none of the big boys take part....and it's so very easy to cheat your stats on their site.

I just created a quote...and I would have taken it the same way. My "quote" e-mail reads:

"Request For Quote Confirmation from Purple Fly Trading"

That right there, along with all the product details - pricing - shipping details confirms the details. Nowhere on the quote does it specify that it is not a quote, or that I need to wait for anyone. So yes, in my eye's - the blame here is on you.

Oh well, would never be buying from you anyways....so moving on....

This guy is such a smooth operator. I checked helloPeter out. Instead of registering as a 'Company who responds' and paying the fees, he instead responds via his Facebook account in the comments section. Not saying much for a company that 'sold over R10 million rands worth of electronics to South African customers last year and the company has gown and grown'.

Also, who responds to complaint like this: 'I have asked the sales rep to stop assisting you and you are not welcome to visit our site or contact us again' & then have his Facebook buddies back him up in the process. Id rather take the copy and past responses from the other companies than be subjected to this.

There goes my shopping spree. Feel for the folks that go screwed over though.

Given their extremely bad reputation and how the owner has been banned on this forum a few times and how he treats customers, I honestly don't understand why anyone would buy from them.

The stock was at a branch on the other side of the country hence the delivery fee increasing. All you had to do was reject the quote or at least ask us why there were increases and we would have explained it to you. You have not paid us any money so we have not entered into a legal agreement. Alternatively you should read our terms and conditions before complaining publicly otherwise it displays your own ignorance."


I'm sorry, but that is no way to talk to a customer. Doesn't matter whether or not they're wrong. If you can't agree on something, as the business, you apologize that a compromise could not be reached, and you move on. You do not insult them!

And responding to hellopeter complaints, with facebook comments, is further proof of their unprofessionalism.

Use it, don't use it...

Since recently Machteld no longer works for Purple Fly Trading. Unfortunately her email address is still on the server and will be removed as soon as we have access to it. I would like comment on this client that likes to tell lies. First of all I do not see any reason why you have to come on hello peter and make a complaint and I feel it shows what an insecure person you are. You sent a request to my company asking for a quote on an item and one of the sales team send you a mail with attached quote. In the mail it clearly says that the quote is valid until stocks last and you said above you it was still early in the day but your email confirming payment was sent to us at yesterday at 2:30pm. Your order was sent to accounts for processing and it reflected in our account just before close of business. The supplier was already closed so the sales rep placed the order the following morning around 11am. The supplier had sold out of the last unit the day before so you were informed of this "Once we receive payment, we send it off to accounts. We can only place the order once it has come back. I am very sorry this has happened, but as I said we will be refunding you in full. Please forward the details into which account the refund must be done." to which you replied "Very poor service, there is banking fees also involved. Send me proof of payment, if the money is not in my account by the end of the day im going to the police" Instead of thanking us for trying for you you threaten to go to the police ??? Who does that ?? I refunded your payment in full within the hour only to find out you came on hellopeter and made a complaint about our poor service. Are you seriously not well in the head ? Once a complaint is made on hellopeter there is no removing it for 12 months. So by your comment you give people the impression that Purple Fly Trading provides poor service just because stock was sold out. I called you to try and explain and you continue threatening that you will go on hellopeter again and make more bad comments. I'm not sure what your problem is but you Tiaan de Wet are a douchbag.

Purple Fly Trading sold over R10 million rands worth of electronics to South African customers last year and the company has gown and grown. We are trying our best to get up with the growth that we have experienced. You sent us a request this morning asking us to check stock and pricing and as we are only a reseller we have to wait for our suppliers to reply to us confirming stock and price. There are more than one distributor for the manufacturer and we request quotes from all of them and we have to wait until they all reply so that we can get the cheapest price for you. One of the girls in sales was dealing with your request and becaue we didnt reply back in 3 hours with the quote you go and make a public complaint against us ?? I have asked the sales rep to stop assisting you and you are not welcome to visit our site or contact us again. :-) I will publicly name and shame you because the world does not revolve around you.

Also, seemed like they don't like to do business on a Friday after 11am.
