The opposition parties’ decision to make the personal shortcomings of African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma the main focus of their election campaigns has served only to galvanise the ruling party, who took its message to voters instead of wasting time squabbling with opposition leaders.

The DA’s “Stop Zuma” posters have been shortsighted and will most likely result in alienating those few black voters whom Helen Zille had hoped would vote “with their heads and not their hearts”, to borrow from her lexicon. Bad tidings for a party that says it is committed to position itself as a post-racial entity.

The BRT has to be on hold. The Taxi association wants control over this project, which will be a suicide and if Zuma says NO, them Taxi drivers may disrupt the elections. Jeff Radebe is against this whole idea of giving the project to the Taxi industry. They can't even run their own industry - well depending on which side of the fence you are on anyway.
 
Phase 1A of the BRT system is still going in full swing. In Soweto this morning, they were still busy erecting bus stops along Chris Hani road and Koma Street.

Their main beef with BRT is that the buses will takeover their routes which were notr serviced before until they started operating them with their taxis.
If I was a taxi boss I would also be pissed...
Why didn't gvt build the infrastructure (dedicated lanes, bus stops etc.) for the taxis instead of substituting them with buses?

Takeover "their" routes, when did this happen. Taxi Drivers, I shudder to call them drivers. But that is besides the point. If the government is going to subsidise public transport buy erecting these kinds of things, they will obviously do it for the mode of transport they can control to some extent i.e buses. The taxi drivers want to be in control of themselves, a law unto themselves in many case jumping red robots, driving on pavements, etc. why would should they give the taxi drivers anything more than a notice to cease and dissit?

I'm saying the whine coming from the DA & other opposition parties made it impossible for voters to focus on the ANC short comings - which the opposition should have been highighting at every turn.

They should have been out there telling the electorate that although the ANC may be building them houses, but they in fact should have been building them better quality houses if it wasn't for the money going to bribes, etc. They should have been telling the people that grants/pensions don't come from the ANC, but from anyone who's in gov at the time, etc.

They've been telling that to voters for a long time. Voters not very bright though. Voters believe ANC when ANC says DA = White = bad. Voters will get the government they deserve.

And if the voters complain about the poor service they are receiving from the ANC, the government can just blame the white population and the ANC will win another election :(

Has it ever occured to you genius that we would rather stay here & fight for our country of birth than join the chicken run at the 1st sign/hint of trouble? We stayed throughout persecution, why would we give up when we now have the ability to influence which way it heads.

Build dedicated lanes for taxis?!
Who's going to pay for those dedicated lanes? The majority of taxi drivers and bosses don't even pay income tax so who do you think will foot the bill?

There's no ways in hell that I'm going to pay for a piece of road that:
1. I'm not allowed to use
2. is used by other people who don't pay their tax

People riding on taxis are on a joyride to nowhere? They don't work, they don't pay taxes....How does your garden and domestic helper arrive at your house every morning?
