Johannesburg - ANC president Jacob Zuma on Monday backed a proposal to put the implementation of the bus rapid transport (BRT) system on hold pending further consultations.

"I am supporting what was proposed, that we hold horses for now and then we come back," he told the SA National Taxi Council (Santaco) BRT summit at Gallagher Estate in Midrand.

Zuma explained how the country was in the process of an election and that the new government should be given time to form and then revisit the issues raised by the taxi industry over implementation of the plan.

"I am proposing that we hold horses for now and we come back... if that's agreed then lets get back to business," he said.

Zuma spoke in English and Zulu and was received warmly by the packed auditorium of Santaco members.

He urged them to vote in Wednesday's poll to ensure an ANC majority which, in turn, would enable it to "make decisions" in government.

The politicial parties in South Africa, should really start a massive voter education program during the next 5 years.

This is JZ/ANC politiking,
they need to try get the thuggery taxi associations to vote for them. Ditto Khutsong and the other places demanding relocation to whatever province they feel they will receive the best services from.
 
Well, all the more reason to vote DA. At least they can implement proper public transport in Cape Town while the rest of the country goes back to square one (square one = taxi drivers striking whenever BRT is mentioned)

Why? It's easier to feed BS to uneducated people and that's how politicians like it. Why do you think todays matric is roughly equavalent to a old St8/9?

Perhaps the opposing parties could educate the voters?

At least people will think long and hard before voting ANC when they know and understand just how corrupt and selfish the ANC is. :sick:

It was on track until *suddenly* it gets put on hold. Surely they should have "looked into it more thoroughly" much earlier in the process ?

True. One of the employees at our apartment building told us that in Polokwane, the ANC told them that if they vote DA or COPE, apartheid will return. They apparently made nasty remarks about Lekota and 'that white woman' (referring to Lynda Odendaal).

Sorry but I do......how many millions of rands has been spent on it already? I don't know. I'm assuming the work has already started in time for the world cup. So potentially if JZ is to be believed (from a taxi drivers pov) they will stop it?

That means the money they have already spent on it will in all reality have been a waste. Surely as the ruling party they should have thought about this before it was given the go ahead?

Again this is only a nassumption on my part as I'm feeling a little too lazy tonght to actually go and do some research (Which I will inevitably do some time tomorrw)
 
Oh great so now we are saddled with thumping great gouges in our roads that will be with us forever because of lunatic taxi drivers who want to vote.
Bye bye public transport, the idea was great.
 
Is anyone in the CBD? Has any work on the BRT actually stopped? Have all thsoe employees been laid off?

Construction will continue, but the finer details relating to it's operation will ironed out after the election.
As far as I can see it's only a pause to allow the grievences given to the ANC during last two weeks to be considered by the new administration.

As I said - a lie.

Zumatello told the taxi drivers to vote for the ANC so they don't have to worry about them for another 5 years.
 
So basically this is an admission they have been cocking it up till now.

Why oh why do our voters never hold anyone responsible for their actions by voting against them? How will we ever get a responsible gov if they never have to answer to anyone?
