I love to test theories, and this just made my day. I tried to connect to Afrihost live chat with my name and reference to the ticket where they keep promising to call me back but never do.

Tried 5 times and each time it waits a bit and then says I have to drop an email. This never happened before, so I test my theory that they see they are supposed to call be back but haven't yet (drama!) and just ignore it hoping for it to go away. I change my name and voila! I get connected on the first try! Had this fun conversation; I love how he says at the end that he's struggling to find a manager and then just signs off :)

Thapelo M (03:34:57) : Good Day Gernot :)
Gernot (01:36:23) : This is somewhat humorous. Only when I changed my name and email will it connect me
Gernot (01:36:33) : Well good luck Thapelo
Gernot (01:36:39) : I'm actually Brenden
Gernot (01:36:42) : See ticket VTL-416-15126
Thapelo M (03:35:46) : Ok :)
Thapelo M (03:35:51) : sorry about that
Gernot (01:36:56) : I was promised high and low yesterday that someone will call me back
Thapelo M (03:36:01) : it's a glitch on the chat
Gernot (01:37:20) : after previously managers failed to call back
Gernot (01:38:16) : and not surprisingly no one has again called me back. I keep getting told that a manager has to review my issue from accounts and that's why they can't sort it out immediately
Thapelo M (03:37:16) : it was a credit note
Gernot (01:38:21) : and that they will call me back
Gernot (01:38:26) : and then no one ever calls
Gernot (01:38:33) : so while I have you on here
Gernot (01:38:37) : I'd very much like to sort this out now
Gernot (01:38:42) : or else it's never going to happen
Thapelo M (03:37:50) : i will get a manager to call you now
Gernot (01:41:35) : i'm holding on
Thapelo M (03:43:44) : trying to get one :)
Gernot (01:48:23) : Santa claus, an honest lawyer and a manager at Afrihost all jump from a plane. Which one
survives?
Gernot (01:50:07) : Santa Claus survives, because we all know the other 2 doesn't exist
Thapelo M (03:50:11) : sorry about that Gernot
Gernot (01:51:45) : It's Brenden, remember
Gernot (01:51:49) : :\
Gernot (01:52:10) : Have you managed to get hold of a manager?
Thapelo M (03:53:01) : i am working on that
Thapelo M (03:56:14) : I am struggling to find one
The party has left or disconnected. Chat session has ended.

Dealing with Afrihost support is a lot like your girlfriend cheating on you.

First, you can't believe it.
Then you get angry.
After venting for a while you start to feel sad. "FML".

And finally, you just smile at the stupidity of it all.

I had a query on New Years day at about 22:43 and they sorted it in 30 minutes. Granted it was my mobile connection and not ADSL.

With a lot of "sorry's" in-between :)

As opposed to those companies that give money?

So this morning out of nowhere get an Email from Simon. He says "our bad, you were overcharged and have been credited".

I can only imagine how pleasant my experience would have been if Simon looked at my account from the start. Where have you been all my life, Simon?

I can only imagine how pleasant my experience would have been if Simon looked at my account from the start.

But he hasn't. Simon is most probably not the only call center guy at AH. This can happen at any company in every country. Employees are on different skill and social levels so personal experience for customers may vary. At least Thapelo didn't use premade empty phrases during your brief convo. He lied to you straghtforward and outright, we gotta give him that. Glitch in the system my @$$. Maybe he should really look into another field of work, like tossing burgers or pumping gas or something more suited to his level of competence.
