So it looks like the PS3 might actually become an income generator.

How is that for making it worth R6300 :)..

Whilst it may never earn that much back Sony has come up with a novel idea to give you free goods (read games) for putting your PS3 to work...

The thought of getting a free game every month just because I leave my console on all day is very appealing... it cuts the price of gaming down drastically.

I read somewhere else that since the base of ppl is pretty large, the money you get out of it will be quite low. So basically leaving on a PS3 on all day to do calculations will consume a lot of power. I wouldn't think there will be a lot of savings then.

On the other hand if it was for a good cause and not some greedy corporate looking for a free ride then it's worth it. I would rather do Folding@home for free rather than for some pharmaceutical unless they pay me R200+/month. In that case, they might as well buy their own cell servers from IBM.

how could this affect our limited monthly bandwith by the way?

It shouldn't do much... The worker units are generally very small and even if you did a couple of thousand a month I would think it would go much over 10-20Mb...

But since nothing is confirmed we don't really know but I think bw will not be a problem.
