So im busy levelling a War on twilights hammer EU horde..

was just wondering, as a DPS war, once you hit 70, would you rather do pve content, or just hit pvp straight on...

is it possible to do pve with pvp gear? (warrior specifically)
would you guild take a dps war with only pvp gear?

you can do pve with pvp gear a lot of people do that as arena gear is not to difficult to get and has alot of dps built into it as they made for it :P, as a dps warrior its difficult to get in a guild as mainly expect them to tank.

If you're going DPS then you will most likely gear up faster doing PvP, especially as a Horde player (shorter Queue times == Win).
That being said, don't neglect PvE as you'll want to grab certain Blues from the 70 instances and you'll need Rep with certain factions for enchants and so forth (CE for your Head enchant as an example).

The old saying still is, PVP gear for PVP and PVE gear for PVE.
The great PVP rewards available to some classes is however quite a good substitute till you can get better pve gear.

For warrior specificaly, PVP gear have insane stats and wil boost youd damage output in PVP quite significantly. The PVP gear have however quite low hitrating! So if you hit any mob level 73ish or bosses you will miss them 30-50% of the time as fury warrior! Fury warriors aim for 200ish hitrating before they start add considerable dps to a raid. Arms warriors can get along with a lot less (i.e. 130hitrating) but arms does not work that well for dps as fury warriors does.

Getting S1 gear though will enable you to get some hitrating gear from Karazhan or ZA easier/faster. And it is surely better than the normal 5man instance drops (par from a few rare drops).

PVP gear has alot of resilience so your dps will never equal that of a PVE geared player.

pve gear has no resilience
pvp has no hit rating

If your enjoy pve encounters ,farm some heroics move onto kara and then 25 mans
If u enjoy pwning in pvp gear join BGs and save ur honour till S2 gear is availiable after 2.4

Do your self a favor, if your a Dps warrior dont wast you life in BG's the only PvP you are going to do is Arena it is to supplement your Raiding Gear. As you can see by my armoury i have 3 peices of Arena gear (we have voidy on farm but our 3 main tanks and Holy Priests get 1st shot at T5 Shoulders its so unfair ;p)
Do not get any arena things less than Season 3 exept shoulders(requires 2k rating). Need 1 last nether vortex till T5 main hand aswell :D
BUT once i get PVE gear that PVP Gear is History , only to be used in Arena's or BG when i feel like it.

Step 1: Hit rating MUST be 190-200 with out this your damage is nerfed by 25% (+8 Hit rating Gems)

Step 2: Attack power, get this to about 1800 unbuffed. Its not that hard +8Str Gems are your friend (screw socket bonus)

Step 3: Crit rating 28% min , mine is a bit low but i switch gear out on certain bosses to get it to 35% if needed.

Step 4: Dont worry about Hit Points 10k is Fine, you should not be getting hit if you are behind the boss or in the right place. !! NB Never fight a boss in the fron even if he does not cleave it causes the mob to parry which hit the tank for 1 free shot !!

Step 5: PVP gear is for PVP , PVE gear is for WTF PWNing Everything else

Have back up gear, as a Dps Fury warrior you will Off Tank. Its one of those things, I have a full set of Resistance gear (Frost and Nature) and 15k hp in Tank gear, Dont get me wrong i hate tanking with a Passion  but its the dps warriors Job to pick up the trash.

PVE is Fury. Needs lots of hit rating.
PVP is Arms. Crit and resilience.

The two specs and gearsets are vastly different. If you want to be any good at either, you're probably going to have to gear and spec appropriaetly. You probably cant be adequately geared and spec at both (although i hear about the arms/fury slam build, but i doubt it'll be as good as 41 point arms for pure pvp)

I've been in this situation

Rogue = PvP gear nice 100+DPS swords and the like = Good DPS

Started gearing PvE gear, more + hit instead of + crit and the DPS on the weapons is slightly lower.

In PvE the PvE gear did almost 1/3 more damage than the PvP gear in total the full run.

Same works with PvP

You use PvE gear in PvP = UR PWNED !

Good luck pugging heroics without salvation or even kara. I normally kick out pvp geared ( aka welfare epics ) warriors, or any other pvp geared class ( except locks ). As a pve geared char will perform better.

Also , if your in a guild doing 25man raids, chances are you wont get pass kara in pvp gear. ( unless your a healbot, paladin in pvp gear can go bt no probs, just they suck @ mana fights )

We have a Fury Warrior in our guild who's PvP geared and he refuses to do certain basic things to improve his DPS (which is appalling)
a) get some +Hit. (Apparently he thinks 120 or so is ok WTF)
b) switch that nublet fast offhand for a 2.60 speed

The guy gives warriors a bad name.

We recently got a fury warr and have much the same problem. He'd never raided before kz, new to Wow, absolutely flat out refuses to offtank anything ever(doesnt know what a shieldequip macro is), scrubs out on dumb **** like getting caught by Aran's Arcane Explosion or running into Prince's infernals while enfeebled/getting hit by the shadow nova, struggles to keep shouts and thunderclaps up, etc etc etc.
Has the audacity to freak out in vent when someone else makes a mistake.
1.5 speed offhand with mongoose on (lol). Mostly pvp gear.

Sigh. He's probably not gonna last.

Sometimes you need to flame them till they break or shape up. It's harsh but you can't drag nublets through content.

Yeah, from here on out he's gonna be in my personal spotlight. Too many more noob moments and emo crap and he's getting shuffled to the backburner or outright gkicked.

Thing is this guy apparently thinks he is the shizz. Went all emo on Aran last night because the hunter (who, coincidentally, had only ever been to Aran once before) popped a Flamewreath, yet he, apparent long time KZ veteran, gets hit on attempt1 by an AE.
Then on the pulls up to chess he runs ahead of the tank and aggros before everyone's ready causing a wipe on trash that should be ezmode. Excuse? "I wasn't paying attention".
No **** Sherlock. I'm not sure i want this bright spark trying to dodge volcanoes on Supremus later on.

Fury warriors are not for nabs. They have no active threat dumps or ways to escape sticky situations. You need to really be on top of your game to play one.

On the topic of PVP vs PVE gear (any class).

PvP gear are easy to get and they are good. They are good enough to get you into Kara and last for a pretty decent amount of time gearing for 25-mans . You have to start somewhere...PvP is the easiest route imho.

There's a catch 22 scenario where you need good gear to get INTO a raid to get good PVE Gear . You're not going to get into a Kara Raid -just- with your quest blues/green or even the blues that dropped in normal instances, you need epic-like stats . Even heroic instances [of which theres a few i find harder than Kara] you need good gear from somewhere.....

If you can get something better outside of a raid and outside of PvP , then get it. But if all the l33t loot drops inside of a raid and you can't get into a raid then you're not going to grow PvE loot out of your arse either....

Obviously, you must go read some gear-guides for your class [there are plenty out there]. Try find a site which ranks the top 20+ gear items per slot , so you can decide whether to grind for a PvP item or not or whether that blue IS actually the best you'll get [there's alot of those]. On my class i've found alot of the PvP items feature VERY high on these lists , only outranked by gear dropping in the toughest of raid instances .

Eish I was a real nublet and broke Flame Wreath about 3 weeks ago and then got aggro on Vent because I was 100% sure I'd stopped in time.
I felt like such a fool.
Getting hit by AE though is pretty lame, especially if u using Enemy Casting bar.

BTW was Ferret the hunter? coz i'm gonna tease him if it was.

Hell, I triggered FW the other night as well. It happens. The occasional noob episode is excusable but keeping a running tab of scrub moments certainly is not.

And nope. Ferret is pro, man. I have had zero issues thus far. He's even outdpsing guys in full epixx with his blue loot.

Want to hear the funniest part?
Ferret has never played DPS past 30. The man plays the most awesome Pally Healer ever back on US.
Also, if you're looking for some sweet mod love he'll point out something new to use.

I'll rag him anyway, but thats just because I can.

*Edit*
Also Grats on Gruul the other night. Roll on the 25 mans.
