I have a PVR but considering cancelling the R55pm PVR Access fee as I no longer need 2 TV's on diff channels.
I know I would loose TV2 support & ability to record a 3rd channel but would I still have the PVR recording facility to the hard drive and pause facility on TV1?
Surely its a PVR hardware function.
I am getting conflicting info from DSTV (surprise!)

Thanks

From what I understand, no. All PVR functionality is disabled.
Cheaper to use an HTPC.

Better to use an HTPC. Only issue is, has anyone been able to get HD content on one? Then the PVR function can be offloaded from the DSTV HD-PVR, which will still be needed in order to receive HD content, afaik.

the HDPVR cost is included in the PVR Access cost, so you need to pay for it to get 170... and you'd need a HTPC that is HDCP compliant.

Thanks for the info but as you see I am a "junior"!
Should have mentioned that I have a standard PVR not HD.
Also dont know what an HTPC is - seperate recorder? any suggestions on where to look up info on it & any recommended make/model welcome.
The bottom line is that DSTV is just getting too expensive for old folks and have to do a little trimming:(
Thanks again

An HTPC is a normal PC running Media Centre Software (Windows Media Centre edition, Media Portal, or the many linux flavours)

Its not really that "consumer" though, some ability to tinker is essential
