My PVR is busy giving up the ghost. I have a decoder care contract. The problem is that I have a ton of stuff recorded for the kids. Would I be in breach of contract (i.e. would they be able to tell), if I took out the hard drive and copied off the stuff on to my PC? Alternatively, do they fix your PVR and give it back to you or do they give you another one?

No, you wouldn't be able to copy, or should I say watch, because the HDD encrypted.

you can't put the HDD on another PVR afaik...

How do you know its giving up the ghost?

The power supply fan is busy failing. From the sounds of hit, we have another week or two before it fails completely. It's not a big issue but if I take it in, they are likely to replace it with another one.

We have a DVD Recorder but we haven't used it for a while and it seems to have gone faulty.

I was hoping to copy off all of the files from the hard drive and then copy them back onto the replacement.

surely its still under garuntee? in it will be good for them to do somethin else other than watch tv. i dont want to be too extreme but maybe they should play outside? too much tv can melt your childrens brains

They do play outside, even when it's cold like it is at the moment. TV often gives us a few minutes break. Children bring a lot of joy but are also a lot of work, especially when they are in the terrible 2's.

Long shot here...if you happen to have a recordable DVD player with a built-in HDD you will be able to copy the stuff, and eventually dump onto your pc.

yeah and another thing if you speak to a clued up dude from Multichoice he will be able to tell you how to unlock the USB so that you can get your stuff onto flash drives so that you can copy the stuff on to the pc.I did it once but forgot how to do it again

I thought this cannot be done at this stage ?

i heard the USB is for future use only. and anyway the stuff is encrypted so you wouldnt be able watch it anyway:(
