You can buy a DVR(not sure) but same concept as DSTV PVR. Record and pause live tv. Think I saw a samsung one @ shop other day

EDIT: http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=33442

there is similar products in South Africa. just need to do some searching

What would be cool is something like TiVO device without the subscription where you can access some sort of EPG data over-the-air without having to fiddle with manually inputting schedules.

Right now I'd have to go through the tv guide, set the recorder and hope that programme starts/finishes on time. In my dreams all programmes will come with a "digital tag" which can be read by the PVR. Hopefully new DTT system will have this capability when it starts in July.

Thanks for the info guys will follow up on your leads!

yeah...they're all over the place, Makro, Tafelburg, Audio Vision, etc. Its more commonly called a DVD recorder. It has a built in Hard Drive on which you initially record your tv programming to burn to disk later, if you so please. I think they come in 160GB, 250GB and 320GB and from a variety of brands, Sony, Samsung, LG, etc.

You can also try Home Theater PC if you want the ability to have Electronic Program Guide.
