Hello everyone

My Toyota needs a new water pump and the local dealership quoted me R3100. Does this seem about right?

Thanks

Check the price at your nearest friendly Midas - they should have ones at a better price than that - do you intend fitting it yourself?

The Toyota is in for its 135,000km service, and they informed me the water pump is starting to leak. Since it is at them already, and they have a new pump in stock, I said they can go ahead and fit the new one.

OK, then you are stuck - the least expensive way to change a water pump is to do it yourself - they will be more expensive than one from Midas, but at least you'll get the full factory warranty backing.

At the Toyota dealership? If so, then you deserve to get ripped a new one.

Check with Autozone and Midas. They sell high quality replacement generic parts for Toyota.

That's too much for a water pump.

I think its the labour rate. Mine went in for a service and they wanted to charge me R450 for 30min labour to change the front brake pads......Told them to forget it and did it myself

Try Gemini autoparts in Jhb, they bring in parts from Japan and these tend to be better quality then the chinese stuff that seems to be flooding the Autozones and Midas places these days.

Definitely paid less than R500 for the water pump on my Camry from them.

Seems like there is a problem with the water pump on the 2009 model... My Corolla went in for a replacement in January 2013.

Toyota charged me R3 233 in total. The pump only was R1 377.

The pump was R1,191.54 (ex. VAT) and they charged me two hours labor @ R550/h (ex. VAT) The actual service part was only R1,722.22 (incl. VAT) of which they charged me 1 hour labor extra because I asked them to adjust the clutch. That was an expensive request.
