Could the following be due to the router, or the connection?
At random times my connection generates timeouts. When it gets ridiculously slow, I run a ping and find that I have a regular +- 300ms response, with frequent ping timeouts inbetween. I ping both local and int. sites and the timeout sometimes seems to occur at the same time on both ping sessions. It could be any % of packet loss - it's never the same. And it happens randomly. When I reconnect through my router then it gets restored for a while.
I thought it could be a weak SNR but I asked the ISP to sync my line at 2mbps, which gives me a downstream of +- 15db and attenuation of 44db. At my (supposed to be) 4mbps it sync's at between 8 and 11.
Router: SMC Barricade, about 2years now. It happens with both ISP's I have. Telkom says my line is fine on their side, they even "fixed" some ports on the DSLAM that were faulty due to a power failure. Neither Telkom nor my ISP have any idea what it is. Every Cybersmart (they own the line) techie has his own opinion and none of them were correct. Tested everything I could, the physical line at home is fine, POTS filters changed with no effect.
Thanks.
EDIT: I noticed something now. When my connection is in that ping timeout phase, My SNR seems to have dropped to 13, from 15. When I then reconnect, all works fine again for a while and my db is restored to 15.
