Unicash is a sub division of Unicentrix (Pty) Ltd, came about after identifying a rapidly growing need for implementing this fairly new barcoding system. a QR code is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.

Common in Japan, where it was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed.

The technology has seen a large uptake in Japan and South Korea. However, in the west there has been a considerably slower adoption of QR Codes, but all of this is already starting to change… www.unicash.co.za

QR Codes are OOOOOLLLDDDD news. Started by Toyota I believe. Still, they are rather cool.

There are free readers for most phones including Android, Java, Symbian, Winmobile, iOS.

I must say tho... your post looks suspiciously like an advert! I opened the link, waited 30 seconds, then closed it... a little slow atm.

Gents thanks for the comments...sure Qr codes are olllllddddd news...so who has turned them into virtual currency ?...

The Japanese. They have a hugely tech savvy population. We have pockets of them. Cell c is trying them out. Nobody tries to market it properly. Step1, ensure that everyone knows where to get the decoding software for their phones. Step2 give people an incentive to scan the codes. I'm sold, but that's cos I have other interests in QR codes.

Great for marketing... labels on products at coffee shops offering a free coffee with your next meal, etc etc. That kind of thing gets people's attention. Wimpy is a good place to start if you want my attention!

I'm sure you don't like it...

Back on topic :)
WW has an epic QR code fail in their summer sale ATM. They have a big one on the store window and they tell peeps where to get a free scanner blah blah but the text above the code says "Scan this barcode to see what items are on special in store"
The code redirects to their website advertising the sale but gives you nothing more than whats on the printed ad on the outside of their store.

This is the reason people in this country don't waste their time with QR decoding. Thanks WW!
