Quake 4 raped and pilaged!

I trimmed this thread to keep it visible. I get more joy from legal games myself but don't want to preach to those who download cracked games. Please understand that the forum however cannot allow talk of piracy for obvious reasons. Everybody must do what they think is right though.

Please don't admit to piracy here. You can discuss the value of p2p networks and the like but please do not admit to piracy and don't point to places where illegal files can be downloaded. If you do admit to piracy do so in context to some philosophical point or somethin' and keep it ambiguous as to not be pointed at by any specific party. :)

Damn it is hard not to sound anal about these things but legal really is better... :D

Thanks
Antowan

Yeah like FEAR i liked the demo and I am waiting for my copy i preprdered. Is there even a demo for Q4?

I played quake4 online and its just like Q3 with better graphics so i will not get it.

IMO and I may very well be wrong as some clued up formunite will maybe point out Q4 didnt release a mp or single player demo because they are afraid it will suck and people wont buy it.

too late for that :P didnt quake4 already go gold?

wish i could try before i buy :(

Just checked that number is over 600 000 now!!! Yip that is right Six Hundred Throusand off one site!

Doom3 was still one of the most anticipated games over the years.

From where I download, it was pre-released allmost 2 weeks before reaching shops, and had close to 800 000 copies downloaded :)

Just remember, most people downloading it, will either enjoy it and buy it or play it for few minutes and delete it.

Power to the people!
Who wants to buy a game anyways that doesnt come with bots :p

didnt read everything on page1 and 2 but fyi if u wanne play the game over the net u also have to authenticate with the ID servers almost like steam so a lot of ppl will still buy the game.

the future will not be able to stop this and will soon allow the game to be downloaded for free but need to buy cd-keys to play online ..... something like guildwars concept

800 000 and 180 000 still in the queue!

Even R199 is affortable. I don't mind paying R199, the developers also has to make a living

Cricket 2005 and FIFA 06 is both R199 and NFSU2 is now also R199, and if you buy online it is even cheaper

just heard disturbing rumours that Activision is trying to force SA suppliers to sell their games @ R399... ouch...

Hello guys i have purchased star wars republic commando a time ago and want to ask is there any south african servers

Actually, I had a pirated copy, I played around a bit, completed one level or so and forgot to ever play again. I still play Quake3 still, since the source-code is open now, a person can change the game to do insane fun things. Would I have bought the game? No. So that is 1 torrent download which does not represent a lost sale. If it had multiplayer and bots, then I would have played it often, then I might have wanted to buy it.

200 downloads does not equal 200 lost sales. It might represent 200 ppl who would not have bought it, 100 who did because 200 of his friends had it on a LAN and they were impressed. Without the 200 only 40 might have bought it.

Thats true, most people who download the game wouldn't have bought it anyway, even if it means they wouldn't be able to download it (i.e. It was not cracked), they still probably wont get it in the end.

I disagree, those who pirate will pirate regardless of the price!

I think you are wrong there. Pricing is a major contributer in piracy. I have downloaded many clone cd`s, but simply because the original cd`s were scratched by the cheap casing that EA games shipped bf2 in.

People pirate games which has had copy protection removed, just so their PCs won't back backdoored by corporations like Sony. I prefer gaim rather than ICQ, just because I can't deal with those ads flashing non-stop. People install cracked games just because they work better, or faster. I know some games can't be copied to the disk, which makes swapping DVDs annoying, however, the cracked versions play from the fast disk drive.

I would not have purchased Warcraft, had I not seen a pirated copy play DOTA. I might purchase the new Starcraft, but only because I played a pirated copy during school, when I could not afford games.

With some games pricing is a major issue. Take the Civilization series. When the new one came out it was like R800. That makes the choice of buy vs ISOing a mates disc fairly straightforward.

Everything is going to move towards the Steam model, or at the very least the Microsoft activation style model. IMHO this will solve a lot of piracy issues, esp i.t.o. online play.

I don't buy the angle that people download it to "try it out" and then buy the real thing. The only instance where this happens is with online play.

I'm still pissed that I had to crack my (legal!) ChessmasterX to get it to work (It disagreed with Daemon tools).
