So I have a new washing machine, a 7kg LG front loader. I set it to do a 30 minute cycle, it plays its tune when done, then waits a minute and then turns off! Meanwhile I standing there waiting to be able to open the door to take the washing out and I have to turn it back on, wait for it to think a bit, and only then does the unlock door switch off and I can open it. Does anyone know how to change settings so I don't have to turn the machine back on again after the quick cycle so I can get the door open quicker? Seems like such a rigmarole...

I have to assume you read the instruction booklet that would have come with your LG front-loader? Surely this would guide you?

Yes most certainly, it does not mention anything about what happens once the cycle is finished. It would make sense for it to finish the cycle and then release the door to be opened not switch off? I will call Hirsch tomorrow, just thought there might be some smarter people here :-)

What is the name of the particular cycle?

And have you tried any other cycle? 30 minutes seems very short.

That is normal, albeit frustrating.

You don't have to turn it on to open. It has a cool-down period after the cycle completion before it releases the door.

You do not need to put it on again before opening though.

Similarly you don't need to put it on before opening the first time

If I remember correctly, the display shows CD for cool down.

If yours behaves differently, it could be a setting, but not one that I can recall.

Mine was the washer dryer combo unit.

Two things must happen before door is open.

1. Control circuit has to double check whether the drum is empty of water. Failing to do so could cause flooding or even injuries if water is hot.

2. The door handle is disengaged from the lock mechanism by a bimetal. It takes couple seconds to cool down bimetal after heater is switched off by the control unit.

I agree that music should be played only when door handle is ready to open, it is an annoying bug. My LG is an older unit, it doesn't play music, control unit just switches machine off. Since the power is cut off it takes 20 seconds before I am able to open the door (see #2).

Well, Bosh has very similar locking mechanism, but I agree, Bosh is made better.
If you want steam washing, you must try LG. :)

I have an lg and when the tune has played the door can be opened immediately maybe you have a faulty phone lg and they should be able to tell you.
