If you sign up for a 3/4 year 'degree' and you only complete 2 years of that course, are those 2 years valid as any form of tertiary education? Like can it still be seen as a diploma and used in the real world?

Well, you can show you did part but it's not a formal qualification or anything. Basically you amassed some academic credits but insufficient for a degree/diploma.

You guys are too harsh.

If he got reasonable marks, and the courses are relevant it should count for something.

You either get the diploma or you don't, afaik there's no formal document to indicate you successfully completed half your diploma.

Exactly what it says.

It depends on what you are using the information for, presumably a job interview.

Any reasonable interviewer would take relevant information into account.

Of course, if a degree/diploma is an absolute requirement then it won't help you. But that is often not the case.

Relevant coursework and good experience may be enough to land you the job.

Oh, but there is, you can get a transcript from the educational institution with courses completed and marks attained.

The interviewer would require that even if you had the diploma.

No. However there is often significant overlap of modules between degrees/diplomas etc so if you're 2/3 of the way through the degree, you might find that you're only needing a few modules to complete another, different qualification.

An incomplete qualification is something that you do list as one of your credentials though. Maybe not a 3 week course but if you're 2/3 of the way through a degree it will still carry some weight for employers.

I would say it depends on the status of the degree. Being half way and still in the process of getting the same degree will be very different from going half way and dropping out.

I even started applying for jobs when I was still at campus with 1 year remaining. On my CV I did state degree was in progress and with my transcripts attached anyone who viewed my CV would see that I was on track for completion.

If you referring to dropping out, then it would be best to find a collage where your credits are valid, they can then credit you with the equivalent modules. You may have to do a few more modules to finish their curriculum but you will end up with a diploma.
