Question LAN Cable

Can a LAN cable from your modem determine your latencies?

Like would there be a noticeable def between an expensive and cheap cable?

And if so, what do u guys recommend.

No, or rather not enough for you to notice anything. I have about 50m of cable between two PCs in our house and the ping is <1ms, and 1ms ping between our ADSL router and my PC (15m cable). Any generic Cat5e cable will do, as long as the plugs are crimped on properly.

1. Ping the router and see...?
2. I doubt it.
UTP Cat5 is a specification so there's no difference except for special use cases. you do get shielded cable for extreme interference but mostly the twists in the pairs sort that out.

Dirty contacts in the RJ45 socket/plug will have a more noticeable effect and also if they're crimped half-arsed, break in the cable etc.

It shouldn't really make a difference, but a cheap cable (i.e. not shielded well from interference, etc) could make unstable or less reliable connections.

Afaik the technical limit is 90m, which leaves a bit for the hook up at each end, presumeably another 10m.

thnx guys, lol pada, u remembered me, and btw I switched my modem back to it's normal mode and there is no deference in latencies, and I didn't realize that u can use your local area connection as one of your connections in route sentry. I used to have a PPPoE and a dail-up ADSl connection.
