I have a question - may seem stupid but I want to clarify.

If I have a 10mb(up to ;) ) line.... and I have a 4mb uncapped account and do the test. Will I see 4Mbps regardless, but then when I have a 10mb uncapped account I should see 10Mbps theoreticaly?

i know it won't always be full speed but i want to know if that tests your line speed per ISP or your actuall rate getting from them.

I now have been bumped to 10mb line by Telkom but on a 4mb uncapped account I'm still seeing improved speeds of around 5.3Mbps. Basically I want to know if I upgrade to a 10mb uncapped account if I am still only going to see that 5.3Mps or can I expect to see at least 8Mps?

You will generally get a bit more speed if you have a faster line when your data account is slower than your sync speed. Your experience sounds about right. You should get around 8.5Mbps when moving to a 10Mbps data account.

Thanks Zoidberg - you answered my question perfectly.

Now i'll have to decide...stick with Mweb and go 10mb or go to OpenWeb Gold?
So far I'm leaning towards sticking with mweb.

Activate the Afrihost free 1Gb account and test using that. It's a capped account so has no speed restriction.

Thanks, Spaj. Apparently I can't get it as I've previously been an Afrihost client and the "line is already in use"

You should have it by default then. Just find your clientzone log in details, log in and you should be able to see from there.

Hi There,
I would certainly test out the afrihost option. Lots of good reports on their service on this forum.
If you cant find the details as DrJohnZoidberg suggests then give them a call and I am sure that they will be able to assist you.
